A Few Jazz Vinyl Delegations

Lots of nice jazz vinyl sitting on eBay now. This is one you really don’t see very often: Paul Chambers, A Jazz Delegation From the East, Jazz-West JWLP-7. This is an original pressing listed in Ex condition for the record and VG+ for the cover. It’s closing in about four hours and is now in the $900 price range. Here’s another rare one on the same label from the same seller: Kenny Drew, Talkin’ and Walkin’, Jazz-West JWLP-4. The record is in VG+ condition and the cover is VG. It closes in about seven hours and is in the $340 range. I do have a question looking at these two listings from Atomic Records. Which one of the records is in better condition? I’m assuming Ex is better than VG+?

Gene Ammons, Hi Fi Jam Session, Prestige 7060. This is an original pressing with the New York address and yellow label. The record and cover are in M- condition. There are four days to go and the start price is around $200. Think it will sell? I do.

And now for some Blue Notes:

Bud Powell, The Scene Changes, Blue Note 4009. This is an original West 63rd Street pressing in VG++ for the record and VG for the cover. The bidding  is in the $250 range with more than three days to go.

Hank Mobley, Blue Note 1550. This is a West 63rd Street pressing with the deep grooves. It does not have the New York 23 labels, so I guess that would make it a second press? The record is in M- condition and the cover is VG++. It looks real nice. The seller is asking for $2,000 as a buy-it-now offering. So far there are four bids, but it’s still available.

  • I wouldn’t go below EX on a record from Atomic. I asked them once whether a VG++ LP was in collectible, clean condition and the response was basically “no – you won’t be happy with it.”

    Oof.

  • Not a good sign when bidders are NON REGISTERD USERS. That just taints the record(s)in my book. As a seller waddaya do though? You can’t control it. My question is how is a non registered user allowed to bid anyway? This “user-ism” (a new ism!) must of occurred after the fact (?) so let’s think (and I’m not accusing anyone here) – Shill bidding from employees? Friends? Customers of the store? And eBad actually caught them? Nah or the seller would have been suspended. Or just plain bad luck for the seller and he actually got a buyer from Taiwan who deosn’t pay. …. ever? In the same week? IMO the ladder seems fair and true (the seller is very reputable) – As a buyer (I buy a LOT of vinyl esp JAZZ) I have to see all angles to determine outcome and deceiptful practices are common amongst the bay – ever buy Jamaican/reggae records it seems a larger problem!
The prices bid here would explain the SCORE press at $100+ however (that’s crazy.) I was thinking a VG+ copy of the JAZZ WEST would fetch $60-$100 but obviously I’m not in that ballpark! I would rather buy other records for much less than what the original might fetch and the SCORE press is just fine!
