More and More Blue Notes: Quite a Week on EBay

It is quite a week on eBay this week. Yesterday we pointed out two quite compelling Blue Notes for auction and if you were dig a bit deeper you would notice that the seller of the Cliff Jordan-John Gilmore LP, herschel78, has quite a trove of additional treasures. I will point some of these out momentarily. We have also received an email from a seller named pretovelho, who has just put up about 200 records, including a large number of Blue Notes, some of which will will point out here as well. We are also putting up a few nice records under our nom-de-ebay AJDoctor, one of which is the first Moondog LP on Prestige, entitled Moondog, Prestige 7042. This one is in nice shape and already has a bid of $99. As for some of the other choice items we’ll be watching this week, here is a sampling:

The Eminent Jay Jay Johnson Volume 1, Blue Note 1505. This is an original Lexington

Avenue pressing and is one of the items being offered by pretovelho. The record is listed in VG+ condition and the cover is VG. The current price is $50. Also from that seller is another copy of Cliff Jordan/John Gilmore, Blowing in From Chicago, Blue Note 1549. This one is in VG+ condition for both the record and the cover and is priced at around $200. The one we mentioned yesterday, in near mint condition, is more than $500 and has not yet reached the seller’s reserve price. Some of the other items from that seller, herschel78, include:

A near-mint copy of Cliff Jordan, Cliff Craft, Blue Note 1582. This one is close to $400 and has yet to meet the reserve price.

Also, a near-mint copy of Sonny Clark Trio, Blue Note 1579. This one is more than $100 and hasn’t hit the reserve yet. You should go to both of these sellers’ auctions and take a look at what’s up there this week. If you ever wanted to fill in your Blue Notes — at high prices of course — this is a week to do so.

  • Hi Al, don’t know if you saw that Lexington copies of The Eminent Jay Jay Johnson Volume 1 (1505) and Volume 2 (1506) both in VG+ condition (although the cover of Vol 1 had some not too nice water damage – graded G) went for £21 ($34) & £66 ($108) respectively – seem pretty cheap – be interesting to see what the pretovelho listing goes for. Certainly expect some high scores amongst the rest of his listings ending tomorrow.
Also spotted recently (on ebay) & not seen here (though you may have seen them): Clifford Brown Memorial 1526 Lex in Ex- cond went for £343 ($565). I picked up an Ex copy (Lex, DG, No R) in May for £8 ($13)! Mine hasn’t got a flat edge, though no mention of that in this recent listing either. Also, The Sonny Clark Trio (w Max Roach and George Duvivier) on Time 1960 Mono DG went for $810.
All best wishes & thanks for the great site, Geraint
