Win A Free Record (Again)

OK, it’s time to give away another record. We’ve done well giving away Blue Notes — hey, how can you do better than Blue Notes? — so we will give away another one. This time it’s Hank Mobley, Dippin’, Blue Note 4209.  This is a mono pressing and it has the New York USA address, so it might fool you into thinking it’s an original. But it’s not. It’s a reissue with the 304 Park Avenue address on the cover. Still, it’s a great record, featuring Lee Morgan, Harold Mabern Jr., Larry Ridley and Billy Higgins. The tracks are The Dip; Recado Bossa Nova; The Break Through; The Vamp; I See Your Face Before Me; Ballin.’ The record and cover are both in M- condition. What’s best is that the record will be given away free to one lucky reader of Jazz Collector. To be eligible to win the record, all you have to do is:

To be eligible to win the record all you have to do is post a comment on the Jazz Collector site between now and the close of the contest, which will be end of day March 19. You can comment on this post, or any other post. Then we will put all of the eligible names in a hat (we don’t actually use a hat, we just put them on a piece of paper and strew them around a table) and choose the one that wins the record. Then we ship the record to the winner, and we pay the shipping costs ourselves, to anywhere in the world. It’s really simple and, so far, we’ve already given away four records and everyone’s been very pleased. The reason we do this is to get people coming back to the Jazz Collector site, and to get people commenting because, frankly, when people comment it makes it a lot more fun for us to do the site. So please comment on the site as often as you’d like: You may even win a free record.

Very nice website, tons of useful information.
Hope I will win the records 😉

  • I’m posting in order to be eligible for the free record. Good website! I’ve been collecting jazz, mostly bebop / hard bop / post bop and fusion for quite a few years now. Starting to get a really good jazz collection…

  • I love this cover design. No Room for Squares is also a solid package.

  • I always thought it was too bad that Hank was tagged “the middleweight champion” of the tenor sax, as opposed to the “heavyweight champ,” because his playing was absolutely beautiful, lyrical, but always with that great sense of swing. I keep a CD copy of “Soul Station” in my desk at work for those times when I’ve just gotta have a little bit of Mobley music to keep me going.

Glad to see the e-mails coming again, and the site moving and growing!

    Best,
    Mike

  • very nice of you to give away some records on your site (and vinyl at that, even better). i’m new to jazz collecting so this site looks like it will be a huge help 🙂

  • One of the things I find intriguing about this hobby, is that you are ALWAYS learning. Thanks to “Jazzcollector” for keeping the learning process enjoyable, fresh and fun!
