eBaying: Frank Sinatra Autograph, LD BLue Note
May 3, 2011 78-RPM Records, Autographs, Blue Note
This one is for don-lucky and other autograph collectors out there. By the way, are there other autograph collectors out there? I though it was pretty cool: Frank Sinatra, Stormy Weather and Ol’Man River. This is a test/promo pressing of a 78 RPM record, clearly from Columbia although there are no other markings to indicate that. The record is signed in script: Best Wishes, Frank Sinatra. I’m not sure how to authenticate these things, but it looks pretty real. There was just one bidder and it sold for $395. Biggest problem with buying a 78 on eBay is the shipping. They are just so fragile.
And, while I’m here, here’s a random Blue Note I was watching: Lou Donaldson, Lou Takes Off, Blue Note 1591. This looked to be an original pressing in VG+ condition for the record and VG+ for the cover. It sold for $334.

A Tale of a Few Vocalists
Sep 15, 2009 Features
I was perusing a Web site called Jazz.com the other day. They’ve been picking up a few of my posts here and there and sending traffic my way, which I appreciate. Anyway, they pointed to another feature from another post somewhere else in which the great drummer Jimmy Cobb was asked to list his six favorite records. Anyway, there was Miles Birth of the Cool and, of course, Kind of Blue, on which Cobb played. Then there was an Oscar Peterson and, incredibly to me, a Wynton Marsalis. I won’t comment on that one. The two that struck me were the vocalists: Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. This brought up a conversation I had with a friend last weekend. He had made the point that he believed there were three premium vocal stylists (in the jazz idiom, of course) in the 20th Century. They were:

Another Dolphy Collectible; Some LPS on eBay Today
Mar 2, 2009 10-Inch LPs, Jazz Vinyl, Jazz Vinyl on eBay, Riverside
Last week we were watching the record Eric Dolphy in Europe, Debut 136, which eventually sold for $1,375. This weekend there was another nice European rare Dolphy for sale: Eric Dolphy Last Date, Fontana 681-008. To my knowledge, this was an original pressing originally issued in Holland. This one was in beautiful M- condition and sold for $596.50.
While I’m here, I may as put in a reminder that we have a few records for sale on eBay today. Here are a couple:
Mundell Lowe, New Music of Alex Wilder, Riverside 219. This is an original

A Sinatra 10-Inch LP for $200????
Oct 16, 2008 10-Inch LPs, Jazz Vinyl, Jazz Vinyl on eBay
I’ve been saving this one for a couple of weeks because I can’t quite figure it out. It’s a 10-inch LP by Frank Sinatra: Songs by Sinatra, Volume 1, Columbia 6087. It was in nice condition and it’s a nice record, but it sold for $202.50, which is way more than these records usually get. I looked at the bidding and it looks like there were two bidders who got into a bidding war. So, perhaps it was a clash of egos. Can anyone think of any other reason why this record would sell for such a high price? Speak now or forever hold your peace.

What’s A Signed LP By Frank Sinatra Worth?
Jun 23, 2004 Autographs, Blue Note, Jazz Vinyl, Jazz Vinyl on eBay, Prestige, Verve
Here are the results of some of the items we were watching yesterday on eBay:
Jackie McLean, The New Tradition, Ad Lib 6601. This was an original pressing of this very rare record. The dealer uses different terminology than we use for grading, but it seems like the record was what we would call VG++ and the cover was VG+. Price: $798
Lee Morgan, Candy, Blue Note 1590. This was an original pressing from the same dealer as the Jackie McLean record. This was in VG++/VG++ condition. It sold for $713. We expected this to go for a higher price. In our Price Guide
