A Really Rare Record & an “Insanely Rare” Record
Dec 1, 2011 Prestige
Here’s some of the jazz vinyl we’re watching now on eBay, starting with: Charlie Parker, The Bird Blows the Blues Volume 1, Dial 901. This is the original 1950 pressing and is, to our collective knowledge here, supposedly the first 12-inch LP ever. Based on the description, it sounds as if the record is in VG++ condition. I wouldn’t mind having a copy of this (which I don’t). This one closes in more than three days, is at a little bit more than $100 and has a reserve price, which has not yet been met. Hmmmmm.
From the same seller is Hank Mobley, Mobley’s Message, Prestige 7061. This is another one I once owned and now regret selling. This one looks to be in VG condition, perhaps VG+, but probably VG. It is about $120 with a few days left to go.
If it’s “insanely rare” it must be the seller bobjdukic, who is back with a bunch of records, including:

And A Bunch More Blue Notes & Prestiges
May 17, 2010 Blue Note, Prestige
While I’m cleaning my eBay queue and updating the Jazz Collector Price Guide, here are a few more Blue Notes and Prestiges for your perusal. No links here and also the prices have been rounded. Some good stuff:
Sonny Clark, Sonny’s Crib, Blue Note 1576. This was an original West 63rd pressing in VG+ condition for the record and the cover. The price was $589.
Lee Morgan, City Lights, Blue Note 1575. This was an original pressing. The record and cover looked to be in VG++ condition. The price was $1,058.
Sonny Rollins, Movin’ Out, Prestige 7058. This was an original New York yellow label. The record was in VG++ condition and the cover was VG++ as well. The price was $283.
Tina Brooks, True Blue, Blue Note 4041. This was an original pressing in VG+ condition for

On eBay: Lee Morgan, Webster Young, Andy Warhol
Apr 18, 2010 Blue Note, Prestige
The seller Jazzhound, who is apparently local to me but whom I don’t know, has been selling some nice items on eBay, including: Lee Morgan, The Cooker, Blue Note 1578. This was an original pressing and the vinyl was in M- condition and the cover was VG++ and the price was only $565.33. Did I say only $565.33? Yes I did. It just seems that this record should be selling for more money, even though this is the highest price we’ve ever recorded for the Jazz Collector Price Guide. The same seller has a few more nice rarities selling this week, including: Webster Young, For Lady, Prestige 7106. This is an original pressing with the New York label and it is a fine album, indeed. This copy is in M- condition for both the vinyl and the cover and it is currently at around $500. And this is one that features a cover design by Andy Warhol:

Catching Up Again: Andy Warhol Covers
Oct 29, 2009 Album Covers, Blue Note, Prestige, RCA
Let’s catch up on some Andy Warhol covers.
Kenny Burrell, Blue Lights Volume 2, Blue Note 1597. This was an original pressing in M- condition for both the record and the cover. The price was $482. Frankly, we would have expected it sell for a higher price in this condition.
Thelonious Monk, Monk, Prestige 7053. This was an original pressing with the New York address. The record was listed in VG++ condition and the cover was VG++ as well. The price was $600.
Moondog, The Story of Moondog, Prestige 7093. This was an original pressing with the New York address. The record was in VG+ condition

More and More Blue Notes: Quite a Week on EBay
Aug 4, 2009 Blue Note, Jazz Vinyl, Jazz Vinyl on eBay
It is quite a week on eBay this week. Yesterday we pointed out two quite compelling Blue Notes for auction and if you were dig a bit deeper you would notice that the seller of the Cliff Jordan-John Gilmore LP, herschel78, has quite a trove of additional treasures. I will point some of these out momentarily. We have also received an email from a seller named pretovelho, who has just put up about 200 records, including a large number of Blue Notes, some of which will will point out here as well. We are also putting up a few nice records under our nom-de-ebay AJDoctor, one of which is the first Moondog LP on Prestige, entitled Moondog, Prestige 7042. This one is in nice shape and already has a bid of $99. As for some of the other choice items we’ll be watching this week, here is a sampling:
The Eminent Jay Jay Johnson Volume 1, Blue Note 1505. This is an original Lexington

Watching the Warhol Covers
Apr 21, 2009 Album Covers, Prestige, RCA
I’m in the midst of an interesting experiment. Last week I put three records on eBay with a common property: Each features a cover design or cover artwork by Andy Warhol. The three records are The Story Of Moondog, Prestige 7099; Artie Shaw, Any Old Time, RCA 1570; and Artie Shaw, Both Feet in the Groove, RCA Victor 1201. Clearly, the Moondog on Prestige is the big prize of the bunch. In posting the three together, it is clear to see how much the Moondog is the prize of the bunch. I started each item with the same exact price: $49.99. They all close today, and they are all in relatively comparable condition. The Moondog LP currently has a top price of $255. It also has received a total of

New Items For the Price Guide
Oct 17, 2008 10-Inch LPs, Blue Note, Impulse, Jazz Vinyl, Jazz Vinyl on eBay, Riverside
Just to follow up on some of the records we were watching earlier this week, and some that will be going into the Jazz Collector Price Guide this weekend. Hank Mobley, Hank, Blue Note 1560. This was an original West 63rd Street pressing in what looked like VG++/VG++ condition. Price: $935. Thelonious Monk, French Swing, 33342. This is a 10-inch LP in near mint condition. Price: $570
Nobody bid more than $15 for this record, and it didn’t sell because it didn’t meet the dealer’s reserve price: Gil Melle, New Faces . . . New Sounds, Blue Note 5020.
Moondog, Prestige 7042. This was an original pressing in VG++/VG++ condition. Price $89.98

Kind of Blue, The Collectible
Jul 15, 2004 10-Inch LPs, Blue Note, Jazz Vinyl, Jazz Vinyl on eBay, Prestige
It’s been a few days, so we’ll spend today catching you up on some of the interesting action we’ve been watching on eBay. Here goes:
Miles Davis, Kind of Blue, Columbia 1355, represents one of the defining jazz albums and now it is taking its place as a collectible of value as well. We’ve seen copies in nice condition begin selling in the $100 range earlier this year and now we have this copy breaking the $200 price barrier. It sold for $203.37.
