Today on eBay: Watching Some Blue Notes
We’ve been quiet the past few days, but eBay keeps buzzing along at its own pace whether we tune in or not. There are a few interesting items we’re watching today and most of them happen to be on the Blue Note label (I’m sure that comes as a shock(!) to many of you). Anyway, here are some of the items we’re watching with appropriate commentary. Please feel free to comment as well.
The first item is one of our own: Clifford Brown Memorial Album, Blue Note 1526. This one is listed as VG on the record and VG+ on the vinyl. It happens to be a very nice listening copy and it’s only at $49 now, so it could be a bargain for someone looking to own an original Lexington Avenue pressing.
There are also a couple of interesting Lou Donaldson records for sale today. There’s
Lou Donaldson, Wailing with Lou, Blue Note 1545. This is an original pressing with the West 63rd Street address. The record condition is listed as VG+ “or better,” which is an interesting way of characterizing it. I guess VG+, as all grading, is in the eye of the beholder. Anyway, the “or better” must be catching the attention of collectors because the record has been bid up to $261. Then there’s Lou Donaldson, LD+3, Blue Note 4012. This is also an original pressing with the West 63rd Street address and the deep groove. The record is listed as VG (not “or better”) and the cover is also listed a VG. The starting price is $20. The picture of the record is very clear and definitely shows some wear on the cover, which is appropriate for a VG grade. You’d certainly expect some action on this, but, with less than 12 hours to go there are no bids. It just goes to show how important descriptions and pictures are when it comes to the prices of records on eBay.
