Here are a few more jazz vinyl records for the Jazz Collector Price Guide $1,000 bin.
Kenny Dorham, Afro-Cuban, Blue Note 1535. This was an original Lexington Avenue pressing sold by Euclid Records. The vinyl was in M- condition and the cover was VG. The item was viewed more than 320 times, which is quite a bit these days, and it sold for $1,631.
Jutta Hipp With Zoot Sims, Blue Note 1530. This was also an original Lexington Avenue pressing. Normally, with records fetching these high prices, I wouldn’t have to state that it was an original. But with the seller bobdjukic selling United Artists pressings for more than $400, perhaps I have to be a bit more circumspect. Anyway, this was
an original pressing. It was listed as sort of M- and sort of VG+ for the record and the vinyl. The seller offered a bit of a range in the description. Regardless, the record sold for $1,338.
In a bit of a surprise today, a later United Artists pressing of AFRO-CUBAN went for just under $200 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120513919332). Very notable, since the UA pressing has usually sold in the $20-30 range.
Is the UA the first post-Lexington reprint of Afro-Cuban? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it with 63rd/NYUSA/Liberty labels on ebay.
Has anyone else noticed that the Kenny Dorham Afro-Cuban listed above seems to be a second press? From reading Larry Cohn’s comments on BN flat edges, all Lex originals had the flat edge and when Euclid sells a flat edge BN it is mentioned prominently in the headline. I’m sure the sound is the same so probably a moot point but it would drive me nuts if I knew I paid that much for a second pressing.
