Like Sonny is without a doubt my favorite in the Coltrane Jazz.
Great! Well, it’s on the podcast. I’m a sucker for Little Old Lady. Without checking Google, I don’t know of any other jazz versions of it off the top of my head.
“Like Sonny” is built from the snippet of a Rollins solo that appears on Kenny Dorham’s Jazz Constrasts. I think its Side 2, “My Old Flame”, but I could be wrong. Need to put that record on the platter.
Enjoyed the show, Al !
I have always had a slight preference for Coltrane Jazz over Giant Steps. My favourite is Little Old Lady.
I visited your site years ago, more out of interest in autographs than vinyl. Now that I am getting a turntable, I wish I had bought some of that vinyl years ago (whew, the prices!). In anycase, just stumbled upon your podcast. Extraordinary. It is going to become a wonderful, regular supplement to my life.
Thanks,
Rick
