For Sale: Louis Armstrong Autograph

I just posted an interesting item on The Jazz Collector Store on eBay: A copy of the Louis Armstrong autobiography Satchmo, My Life In New Orleans, which is autographed by Louis Armstrong. It is signed in large print on the title page: “To Joel From Satchmo Louis Armstrong.” The Satchmo is underlined. I have a receipt stating that I paid $270 for this item nearly 10 years ago, but I just posted it for $200. I did a quick search on eBay and there are not that many Armstrong autographs available and none quite as strong as this one, since it is an inscribed autobiography. Since the item is in the store and not up on auction, it could go fast, so I wanted to make sure I gave a heads-up to all of you who read Jazz Collector in case you wanted to grab it. If you buy it and tell me you read about it at Jazz Collector, I’ll give you an additional $10 discount. Can’t beat that.

  • I have an autographed handkerchief given to me personally by Mr. Armstrong backstage at his concert in Cincinnati, Ohio at the Royal Gardens (I think that’s what it was called) . I have some unique history about this story also. This handkerchief is in a ziplock type bag where I have kept it.

Trummy Young and the band provided me a once in a lifetime memory that day. Perhaps the performance date was around 1955. If you have a genuine interest in obtaining this article, please make a genuine offer.

I came across this site while trying to find information on the value of an Indiana University dance card from 1939 prom that belonged to my mother, with Louis Armstrong’s autograph. While I have researched about getting it authenticated, I have compared it to the signature on the original post here from 2009. It is clearly the same. It looks exactly like the one in this article at IU archives. If anyone here has information on the value of this or how I might determine the value or is interested in purchasing, please respond. Thank you.

  • I have a pictures of Louis Armstrong what looks to be with Grammy’s behind him and signed Satchmo and Louis Armstrong with a green pen. You can see the indentation. Anyone know the value? I believe my father got this signature. email: jen.mapes19@gmail.com. Thank you.

  • Many years ago my Dad, Emil Gyekis, was the drummer in the Lee Kelton Band that backed up Lewis, Trummy Young, and Cozy Cole at a Night Club named The Vogue Terrace on Rte. 51, south of Pittsburgh, PA. Louie had a picture in his trumpet case of his Secret 9 baseball team which he signed and gave to my Dad. My Dad’s nick name was Cricket or Crick for short. Trummy and Cozy also signed and gave my Dad their pics. If anyone out there has realistic values for these photos, please let me know. I am 79 now and still out there dancing!
The Vogue Terrace was really a special place…really part of the Green Book in some ways because it had rooms upstairs for its black entertaineers.

  • I wonder if Roberts autograph from the cave supper club is the same autograph I just bought today on ebay.

  • I have a Horner harmonica, top-of-the-line in excellent condition. The box is the original box with Louis Armstrongs, Satchmo, nickname signature and its sign to a Connie Bell. I was wondering how much that was worth I do want to sell it.
