1544 should have a frame cover to be a 1st. As well as 1545 which is the last with a frame cover.

Was 1544 ever issued with a frame cover? I thought 1543 was the last Lex, and therefore the last frame cover as well. Or, perhaps the better question is: were any 1544s sold WITH the frame cover, and does that make them “first?”

That inner sleeve would date from 1963, would it not? Perhaps the owner just substituted in a Blue Note inner, because otherwise the label looks like the first pressing to me. Although, interestingly, the seller did not advertise it as “original.”

moreover it is presented with the later inner sleeve, instead of the original plain one.

The Mobley 1544 didn’t have the frame cover as far as I can see.

Had my eye out for the Sonny Rollins one and the Sonny Clark and Hank Mobley ones. Bit too high for me atm but someday.
