A Plethora of Jazz Vinyl Riches
I mentioned all of these nice records on eBay last week that were making my eyes cross. Here are some of them:
Phil Woods and Gene Quill, Phil and Quill with Prestige, Prestige 7715. This is an original New York yellow label in VG++ condition for both the record and the cover. It closes in about 11 hours and is currently in the $225 range. Quite a beauty. This one is being offered by Atomic Records, which also sold this one: Clifford Brown and Lou Donaldson, New Faces, New Sounds, Blue Note 5030. This one was in VG++ condition for the record and VG+ for the cover. It sold for $228.05.
The seller of this record also had quite a large number of nice records: Jackie McLean, A Fickle Sonance, Blue Note 4098. This looked to be an original mono pressing listed in VG+ condition for both the record and the cover. It sold for $264. Also from this seller was: Horace Parlan, Speakin’ My Piece, Blue Note 4043. This looked to be an original deep groove West 63rd Street pressing in VG+ condition for the record and probably VG++ for the cover. It sold for $499.
This seller also has some real beauties, including:
Mal Waldon, Mal/3 Sounds, Prestige 8201. This is an original yellow label promo copy in M- condition for both the record and the cover. You don’t see this one too often, not even on eBay. The price is now about about $350 with a couple of more days to go. You should check out the listings from this seller: Some really nice stuff. Here’s one more: Jackie McLean, Makin’ the Changes, New Jazz 8231. This is an original deep groove purple label pressing in M- condition for both the record and the cover. It closes in about a day and the bidding is in the $340. range.
Those pictures and records are enough to make a grown make cry.
Those pictures and records are enough to make a grown man cry.
My goodness. A NM original Sunny Side Up. And a NM Ready for Freddie. I should have studied financial mathematics instead of History. It hurts too much.
That Clifford Brown Memorial Lexington flat edge is AAA-mazing.
Someone thought enuff of this sonny to make this(high!)bid..and it’s a Bergenfield, too!

ceedee: fair enough, but the cover and vinyl look to be in excellent condition, an early Bergenfield pressing in a N.Y. adress sleeve, marked G E M albums. I think this buyer will be very happy.
My Bergenfield copy has a sleeve without any adress on the rear, but still with the mention
G E M albums N.Y. I would rate the item sold by the Danish seller to be as close to a first pressing as possible.(Exception made for copies having one NYC label and on the rear a Bergenfield label. I have one example of such a combination, but they are very rare. Blue Note had many more issues with mixed adresses.
I have a M-/M- berg (NY address and GEM sleeve)copy of sax-col, so have been tracking this – a VG++/VG+ berg copy sold for $1009 in 2010 (!) Of course M- copies of the NYC address can sell for #1200 plus
Earl/ceedee: so this this buyer was not crazy at all. He even made a good deal.
It’s very hard to say what is or isn’t a good geal. The same exact Lp sells for enormously different prices on various days. And one can only be certain of the all-important condition when the LP arrives at home and is played. That being said, I would say the price was more than resonable
How about this one:

sold for $479 with absolutely no mention of condition that I can find
Earl: true, seller just says plays NM or something similar.
I’ve been trying to buy Study in Brown blue print in nice condition for quite a while but it is too rich for my blood… The one for 479$ had 6 bidders offering at least 300$ and I assume all of them know the way how this seller grades his records and do not expect to receive marked item. On top of that 100% positive feedbacks…
I guess if you know the seller that well…however I can’t find where he says that it plays NM, or anything else
I admit that the blue back is highly desirable, but…..
he wrote “record plays NM”, his starting phrase. One has got to know the seller, for sure.
It also has got the silver lining around the label.
A nice album anyway.
I’m confused – when I brought the page up, there was no description whatever. I went back to it at least 10 times, because of Rudolf’s comment, but still nothing. Then I clicked on a link that said “PRINT”, and there found a full description. Can any of you computer experts tell me what happened? I never used this link before to get additional (or in this case, any) information.
