A “Rare” Evans And Really Rare Blue Notes
CeeDee is back with another missive under the subject “Bob dj strikes again!!!!!” Attached is a link to the following record: Bill Evans, Trio 64, Verve 8578. This was an original stereo pressing. It has never really fetched collectible prices, being a later Verve and pretty readily available for many years. It is a terrific record, however, one of my personal favorites among the Evans trio records. This one happened to sell for $153.50, due, of course, to whatever black magic it is that bobjdukic uses to get higher prices than anyone else selling jazz vinyl in eBay. The record was in M- condition and the cover was listed as VG++. Point of fact, for those of you interested: When I write about bobjdukic auctions, which I do just as a matter of course, the traffic on Jazz Collector tends to spike a bit. Why do you think that is?
I imagine Mr. Djukic would have liked to be selling this one: Sonny Clark, Cool Struttin’, Blue Note 1588. This is an original West 63rd Street pressing that looks to be in M- condition for both the record and the cover. The bidding is already at $3,100 and there’s still nearly 20 hours to go. Wow.
This one also fetched quite a nice price:
Tina Brooks, True Blue, Blue Note 4041. This was an original West 63rd Street pressing listed in M- condition for both the record and the cover. It sold for $2,136. Do you think we’ll ever see a day when some of these records are selling for $10,000 or more? I do.
Al, did you notice that there’s an audio clip for the Clark record? What do you make of it? What’s the play grade on this? (Keep in mind that the seller did not sum the channels so playback is in stereo.)
.
Regarding Bob, all I have to say is this: from what I have seen, anyone who knows the going rate for a record and bids accordingly on a Bob Djukic auction is usually not going to win.
Hello Al,
I’m looking for an original mono Dexter Gordon “One Flight Up.”
Anyone out there interested in selling a nice one?
Thanks,
Stu
The Sonny play grade is very high I gues NM- since you can hear very faint noise in beginning parts.
I would be happy with this LP.
Al,I thought the price on the Evans was “out there”,but that seems minor next to the following Bobdj sale. Wow!:

“personal collection”
“american style”
:eyeroll:
This one takes the cake for me, because there is a currently a NM copy for sale BIN on Ebay for $20! Meaning someone knowingly paid $433 more than necessary in order to get the same record:

Don’t know how Bob does it.
I dunno, I think it’s pretty simple, Joe: hype, hype, hype. The descriptions, the big lots of all collectible titles. If you’ll notice, Atomic Records has the same kind of reputation on eBay and people pay exorbitant amounts for their records too, which I think is to say that some more experienced collectors feel they can trust that they will be getting a quality product with these sellers so they are willing to bid a little higher with them. But FTR this bears no relation to me or my own personal bidding habits.
Atomic Records’ auction prices are quite sane and often at the upper end of the going rate compared to bobdjukic, who – across numerous record collecting websites of all genres – is regarded as the man with magic dust.
Bill Evans / Trio 64 : This is one his best because they play some kind of avantgard ! Very unusal for Bill. I got this one as german press from the early sixties for about 20€ in glossy condition and gatefold cover ! So nice…
I bought about 200 45s With primarely 2 songs on each side from an old lady Whos husband or exbyfriend had owned. This stuff is grade A nm condition and I am talking both sleeve an media. Also got about 300 in Perfect shape 78s. All the Music is jazz. I bought the lot because I got it real cheap. She was old and just wanted to det rid of it. Artists include Milses Davis, Modern jazz Quintet, Art pepper, Mulligan, Shaw, Armstrong, Goodman, plus many many more. I am into LPs so these 45s have only been check played. Sound Perfect. The records are from the mid 50s. Anyone interested?
