JazzFan. Thanks for catching some of what I missed. Sometimes there is a delay in getting the comments posted. Typically they get posted right away, but sometimes if the poster hasn’t been here in a while, or if I haven’t updated the comments in a while, that happens. I do have certain standards in terms of what I will allow because I don’t want the site to be a battleground for people who have personal beefs with sellers on eBay. But I don’t have any issues with your comments about JRC and I don’t have any particular relationship with JRC.

I have a problem with the JRC listings and their constant inaccuracy, time after time.

They should either know better or are playing dumb and I’d be surprised if many readers don’t feel the same.

Wes Montgomery on Riverside 1169 – not “the original” – second cover and second labels

Al – J.R. Monterose on Blue Note 1536 – not original (JRC doesn’t claim it is), later non-deep groove repress

Grachan Moncur on Blue Note 4153 – completely ignoring the water damage on the right side of the “excellent condition” sleeve

Thelonious Monk on Columbia 2291 – not “the original” labels indicate a 1967-68 repress

and that’s just this latest small run…

The JRC auctions are insane, but I have never such seen stone mint condition records in years. I wonder where they all come from. It reminds me the glorious 80’s – 90’s years when entire NM collections changed hands because some jazzfans switched to CD’s….

Welcome back sir. I notice ebay prices becoming more untethered over time. Just for example two Gigi Gryce albums in near mint condition in the same auction (Rat Race Blues, Sayin’ Somethin): one sells for $864 and the other for $275. Okay, one was in shrink and the other wasn’t. And then there are the random records that sell for multiples over recent comps. More and more non-Blue Notes becoming undesired and undervalued.

Well, the ebay madness is definitely still happening — the JRC prices on 4100 and 4200 series Blue Notes, not to mention 60s Prestige titles, are notable. Even Joe Henderson Milestone albums are doing serious wallet damage.

More and more I am trying to enjoy what I have and find much to enjoy in the realm of non-original pressings.
