A great pity that I started to sell off my first double Blue Notes, without having knowledge of all these details. Larry contacted me at the time thru EBay to ask several questions on the albums I had put on sale. He told me beforehand that his questions were for research reasons only.
When, alerted, I started to ask questions to him, he replied in great detail. I still have his emails, some 8 pages of fine print in A-4 format.

To DaveS: I think there is some randomness to it, as Larry suggests. He is the most knowledgeable Blue Note expert anywhere.
To Erich Schultz: Larry said that Fred Cohen is coming out with a book for Blue Note collectors sometime next year. That should definitely be interesting.

Al and Larry, I really appreciate all of the information you have posted on the Blue Notes. It would be great if a book with this type of information was published. Although I have a lot of jazz records, I have very few Blue Notes, and my working knowledge of same is poor at best. Given the prices paid on ebay for blue notes, I am reluctant to bid without this type of knowledge. So, that’s a long way of saying keep the information coming. It’s highly appreciated. Thanks!

How does this information reconcile with Allan Songer’s comments? Seems like there is a bit of a conflict with Allan saying all first pressings after 4060 had no deep groove and Larry saying that it was more random in that the condition of the die dictated when something was a deep groove or not.
