If I really had money to burn, I'd buy the Afternoon in Paris on Versailles in a heartbeat, just to have that outstanding front cover photo in its original full size without the super ugly red and blue banners that feature on the Atlantic pressing!

I just saw "Afternoon in Paris" has been sold on Ebay for USD 2'415 !!! Some guys are totally insane... I was with Arnaud this morning (owner of Paris Jazz Corner, best of the best in Jazz in Paris) and we listened to this record. We thought it was pretty average, nothing huge as I was expecting... Arnaud told me he would never rate this record over USD 500 in NM (he was shocked when I told him price on Ebay was already over USD 600). I know Americans love Paris but this is where you have to be careful... Most over these European 1st Press can be found for average price in Europe 5I know at least 3 shops who have this record !

Michel: I had the Versailles, but in E- condition and traded it in for a M Atlantic copy. The music is just gorgeous. My Atlantic is fine and I am not willing to spend some $ 1000 for a NM Versailles, although it is worth that price.
Al: the EPs are 45 rpm. But I have the original Danish 7" pressing of Jim Knepper's quintet on Debut, it plays at 33 rpm.

Al, if you're getting into european pressings, maybe you should take a look at all the Swedish stuff on for example Metronome, Karusell and Sonet. In the 50's when lots of Americans came over to Sweden and recorded stuff with our domestic jazz stars, a lot of great music was created. For example Tommy Flanagans 3 EP's on Metronome which where also released on Prestige as Overseas. Or Stan Getz's 4 EP's Cool Stan in Cool Sweden on Karusell or Tommy Potter on Metronome or Art Farmer & Clifford Brown with the Swedish All Stars on Metronome or Benny Bailey on Metronome and Sonet or all of the Lars Gullin stuff and on and on...

Not a french pressing collector, but i'd love to own a NM original "Afternoon in Paris". Regarding my economic situation, i'll take good care of my NM Atlantic US release...The cover is also very fine. I definitely love this record !
