On that Monk OJC pressing. I would view that with a bit of skepticism. There was one bidder and when there’s one bidder at a price like that I sense a shill.

almost incredible:even the king of original-original-NOT hasn’t tried the ojc road yet.
but,after this sale,never say never.
I had one,Rollins’ moving out:when I got the original I gave the OJC copy away for free.
If only I knew….

holy cow-what is the deal on OJC pressings these days? Are they all OOP or just a select few?

Rudolf, at the time I purchased my 6 or 7 years ago, I thought it was the original because it was consistently fetching better prices than the monk picture cover. I find out soon after I was wrong. I didn’t even know the whole Warhol story. To be honest, I’m not a Warhol fan at all and even if I was only buying a record for the cover I can think of many that I prefer to some of these Warhol covers.

PrLp 7053: it is really BS, this story of Andy Warhol designing the cover of the second issue of 7053. The original has a picture of Monk. As a matter of fact, this second cover is by Reid Miles and they say Warhol’s mother hand-wrote some words/names, other than MONK. Maybe Andy held his mother’s hand. Anyway for the amateurs this is the legend and they are willing to pay big money even for an OJC-edition cover. Good for the seller.
I for one prefer the first cover featuring a nice photograph of Thelonious. No credits for the photo or the sleeve design on my NYC copy.

I paid $125 or so for mine. Never really thought much of the cover to be honest. Good music though.
