We’re in full agreement, Rudolf. Thad Jones’ 1527 is an absolute favourite. I only have it on CD, but I play it a lot. The only Thad Jones I have on vinyl is Detroit-New York Junction; a good quality United Artists pressing of which the cover looks startlingly original. And didn’t I read in one of the comments the other day that some of the mono UA reissues are actually quite good? 😉

I have always been puzzled why the three Thad Jones albums on Blue Note fetch less, even much less, than other vintage Blue Notes. Music-wise these albums are on the top, and what Charles Mingus said on one of his liners for a 10″ Thad Jones Debut album is absolutely true. Thad is the logical heir of Clifford Brown’s legacy.
