I don't agree, Bill. I can't speak for the others of course, but the mere having, holding, touching and even sniffing that desired record is something you can't describe, not to mention playing it. I'm content with what I have in life, including the modest collection of Blue Notes in my record cabinet, but I wouldn't mind adding a few more. When I see that copy of The Scene Changes, then my heart skips a beat, too. And boy would I like to fork out the smackers for that beauty if I had them. But it doesn't make me discontent not having it. And the colour of my neighbour's grass? The only thing he has and I don't, is a VPI record cleaner that I'd love to have myself. Apart from that I'd rather smoke some grass every now and then! :-D

If you ask me its not ' something about green grass' but more making something complete. So your focusing on the defects or gaps in your collection. And when its complete you definitely find an album that you think that is just not good enough and you like to replace it... never ending story....

>>>Why is it that we — we collectors, that is — focus much more on what we are missing than on what we have?

I think it is human nature. No one is ever really content with what they have. We all strive for greater good (every minute of the day). Whatever our neighbor has seems to be better than what we own. "The grass is always greener on the other side."
