This weekend I indulged myself in playing early Moodsville and Swingville Red Garland LP’s. Red with Hawk on SV 2001. Red and Eddie L. Davis on MV 1. Great stuff, well recorded. Also the Red Garland trio MV 6. These three albums give a prime selection of modern bass playing. Paul Chambers, Doug Watkins and Sam Jones. Gorgeously recorded by the master, Rudy van Gelder.

No offence but I think we are have come full circle on these 1000 bin auctions and there are so many other great jazz records out there which deserve a mention based on their musical prowess rather than inflated collector value…

It’s a fantastic record, but I always see copies up on Ebay, makes me wonder why the consistently fetch over $300.. I think this is the second time I’ve seen a WLP of that one though.
