i recently bought a sealed strata-east album from 1977 that i got for about 1/3 market value purely because it was sealed. i did some research and "the liberation of contemporary jazz guitar" had never been reissued in any form, at all, anywhere, so it HAD to be original. the cautious lost out on that one. and of course, i opened it and played it. it is glorious. and original, of course.

but yeah, i would NEVER buy a sealed blue note or something. that's too wild.

I've purchased a couple sealed Blue Note LPs online, but they were clearly 70's pressings and priced accordingly. Interestingly, sealed may not always be the best option, one title I got was a mid-1970's "Hank Mobley And His All Stars" (BLP 1544 or in this case BST 81544) and when I opened it I had to literally peel the inner sleeve lined with cellophane off the vinyl. I suppose if it's a sealed 60's pressing the inner sleeve will just be paper, there are still issues that can arise from a piece of plastic that has been encased in cardboard & paper for the last 40+ years.

I take the risk and this Soul Station is a NY no DG label, no ear. It is a very rare Liberty era edition, but not an original. I wonder why the seller doesn't open it. Maybe waiting for the ignorant that will pay top dollar. As it has been said countless times, Blue Note from the classic era were never sold sealed.

Maybe for export or it's a reseal - I don't believe pre-mid 60s records were jacket-sealed very often, at least not with tight cello.
