Jazz Vinyl for the New Year
We’ll close out 2013 with a look at some of the jazz vinyl sitting in our year-end watch list on eBay.
Lee Morgan, Candy, Blue Note 1590. This was an original pressing listed in VG+ condition for both the record and the cover. It sold for $1,777. You know a record is rare when it can get a bid of nearly $1,800 in only VG+ condition.
Here’s another Lee, now quite as valuable: Lee Morgan, City Lights, Blue Note 1575. This was also an original pressing. The record was listed in VG++ condition and the cover was just VG. It sold for $588.77.
How about a Lee Morgan trifecta: Lee Morgan, The Cooker, Blue Note 1578. This looked to be an original pressing in VG condition for the record and Ex for the cover. The record had a start price of $400 and did not sell, so we’re expecting to see it back on eBay at some point.
Speaking of records back on eBay, there was:
Tommy Flanagan Overseas, Prestige 7134. This was an original pressing listed in near mint condition for the record and VG++ for the cover. A few weeks ago it sold for $3,383, but apparently that deal fell through. The seller relisted it and now it sold for $2,629. Not the same, but not bad.
That’s all for 2013. Happy New Year to everyone and see you all at Jazz Collector in 2014.
RE:The Cooker;I saw this today on Ebay and thought “Why would anyone list this?” and then,”Why would anyone BUY this?” What do you think?

Eh, ceedee, looks like it just needs a little cleaning!
i was watching that flanagan! very exciting. not my cup of tea, though, i must say.
i’ve been record shopping over the holiday visiting the other half’s family in chicago. some nice places.
Well, Ceedee, for me that heavily beat-up copy of The Cooker would probably be the best option to own that baby on vinyl as a genuine 1st pressing. Poor or ‘good’ doesn’t matter to me: I honestly think that some serious cleaning will at least lead to a record that I can still play. I’ll think about it and maybe even put in a snipe on it a day before the auction ends. 😉
And… I decided to snipe not at all on that beat-up pressing of The Cooker after all and eventually it sold for $92… Never thought it would still harvest such an amount. 🙁
No amount of cleaning is gonna make that lp listenable. The pictures showing the obvious groovewear on the first track alone gives me the chills! Anyone who could treat a cover so poorly(look at that BACK) would not be one to own any record-cleaner,I’m sure! But,hey..you not only saved 92 bucks, but also the price of a new stylus(which you would need after trying to play that piece of…)
