Hang in there Mike, I am sure you will find one. I bought a copy of The New Tradition on iTunes initially to obsess over and enjoy long before I lucked out and found an original copy of the LP to call my own. Hunting these ones down is half the fun right !

I have a VG+ copy of the Jackie album on Ad Lib and its fifties re-issue on Jubilee JGM 1064. The Jubilee is MINT, but its sound quality is inferior to the VG+ Ad Lib!
What is striking in the music is the drum accompaniment in a perfect Max Roach style. I have sometimes suspected that this Ronald Tucker is a fake and that Max is the actual drummer.
I have another Ad Lib, 10″ this time, of Billy Bauer.

I didn’t know it was a RVG. The original LP version of this one was always mysterious to me since I didn’t know anything about the label. All I knew was it was rare and expensive. A few years ago I got “The Jubilee sessions” cd. Ever since I’ve been looking for a nice copy and a nice price. Someday. Thanks for the info.

Whether on original LP, CD or iTunes download… Jackie McLeans The New Tradition is a great Jazz album all round. (I have it on all formats for that very reason…) As for the sound quality on this one, the session was recorded by none other than the legendary recording Engineer Rudy Van Gelder… Need we say more?

It was graded VG-, so this price seems accurate. To anyone who has this one, is it a quality recording? I remember reading a few years ago in a forum, that the recording quality on this one was poor(but not the music which is incredible, grab a reissue if you can’t afford an original). Can anyone confirm or deny this?

…That Ad Lib Jackie only fetched $504 !!! Someone really lucked out. I guess it’s getting too close to Christmas for the high-rollers, or could it be the return of the dreaded mid-week low-bid curse !? Perhaps we have finally hit that proverbial high water mark, and the LP market tides are receeding… Hey if Al can dream of going back in time, us bargain hunters can dream too can’t we, all the way back to 1955 prices ! …The reality is that everyone is probably hurting from their recent Black Friday / Cyber Monday spending sprees… (You know who you are ! heh heh)

You never know how these mid-week auctions will go…I lucked out this past year and picked up a +VG copy of Jackie’s ‘The New Tradition’ for $750 at the end of April on ebay through a negotiated “buy-it-now” offer. The cover was definitely +VG, but the LP itself was better than the seller let on.

I found this descriptive blurb writen about this great LP online:
