I have some related info: Jubilee issued a 1950 Bennie Green session on Jubilee EP 15008 (with Budd Johnson and Roy Haynes). I sold this EP for good money to Japan. I had the impression though that this Jubilee EP had no relation to the later Jubilee LP issues. I base myself on the different adress and packaging, but may be wrong.

After I answered the question I searched the internet for a while on any information on Ad Lib. I essentially found nothing except that the Bauer and McLean records where released. So the only other bit I know is that The New Tradition session was re-issued through Jubilee. I wish I knew more.

Mike: you may be right since the Ad Lib McLean album was re-issued on Jubilee LP JGM-1064.

I thought this because I have “The complete Jubilee Sessions” on CD and it contains the Ad Lib session. So I always assumed that Ad Lib was bought by Jubilee. That’s all the evidence I have though, never seen any other info about it.

Mike: I don’t think so. What are your reasons for this supposition?
The Bauer and McLean are the only ones I know to exist on Ad Lib.

Does anyone out there happen to know the story behind Ad Lib Records ? It seems to be one of those lesser known labels… The only other title I’ve ever seen was a 10″ LP called “Billy Bauer – Let’s Have a Session”.

Never the less, there certainly is a really wide margin in terms of selling price on this one depending on the condition compared to the other coveted LP’s on the market…
