@Michel, yeah, Asia Minor is definitely a favorite. I’m also fond of “From In to Out” though that might be a little free for the hardbop-minded.

I second Rockaway and don’t forget the wall at Atomic, there is some great stuff up there! I was at Record Surplus yesterday and would skip it, the jazz selection was mediocre at best.

You can find ok stuff at Atomic in the bins but they hold out all the cool stuff for online auctions. Steve is kinda rud…….. well, … Let’s just say he’s not “people oriented” – that’s for sure!
PM SOUNDS is a great place – for sure hit that one! That guy is cool! Great sound system and if you ask him to play something good he will (like a great record you’re interested in buying!) HE LOVES JAZZ and SOUL so don’t bring him a Romantics lp to check out!
I haven’t found sh!t at AMOEBA for years – always a lot of way overpriced liberty re-issues and japanese stuff(jazz-wise) – Rockaway is your best bet Al as they just got a new jazz collection last week ( some of it’s in my collection now!) – HAVE FUN!

Aaron is right. You absolutely need to hit Atomic records in Burbanks.
Ask for Steve the owner. A gentleman and a connoisseur.
You can also hit PM Sounds in Torrance.
Nice gentleman and nice assortment.

Record Surplus. They used to be on Pico but I think they moved close by. If you on your way north to Atomic it is on the way. I know Rockaway just got a big jazz collection in their store. They’re in Silverlake(LA address)on Glendale st(blvd) (ln)(ave?)that would be where I would go first to spend my money!

by the way, the clifford jordan album is also one of my favorites. No groundbreaking music, but one of those BN albums you can’t sit still… The track Not Guilty is awesome, as Cartman would say!-)

If you dig Dizzy Reece, i recommend “Asia Minor” on New Jazz. IMO his best session and quite simply one of the best and most underrated hard bop session ever. And Joe farell’s first recording session, by the way.

1O years ago I was not familiar with Dizzy Reece, a friend recommended that I check out a 3 CD set Mosaic put out, I really thought the music was stellar. I was also turned onto Curtis Amy and Bennie Green the same way. It’s been fun searching for the vinyl copies of stuff I discovered on CD. Unfortunately originals are only window shopping fore me, but I know a second or third press still sounds better than the CD.
