aside from large or small labels, the label that does not have Inc. has to be the earlier pressing.

I have been researching cover addresses for Riverside based on Michel’s helpful hints. My collection is limited, but I have no inc on the cover with large blue labels at 12-261. It is definitely on my 12-270 & those after. It would seem to appear sometime in 1958. Also the 235 address seems to start around 12-315. I have been focusing on these albums, but am fascinated to find out when the Inc first appeared.

Max — Good for you. If you look in the Price Guide you’ll see that VG+ copies of this have sold between $100 and $150. It could be more now with the Blue Note market doing so well.

i just found my first lexington ave. label (both sides)/deep groove today on Horace Silver’s 6 pieces of silver. six bucks, and plays vg+ with a great vg+ cover. Does anyone know what this might be worth?

Michel, thank you indeed, it is 100% true what you are saying, but I thought that this particular album, which was being discussed, has the small label.(I may be wrong).
By the way, all the original big labels which I have in my collection, come directly from the US, with these patent numbers in the dead wax. All the older Riversides which I bought in Europe through official import channels, have the small labels, starting with 12-241 and 12-256, my first Riversides, which I bought in ’59/’60. This means to say that regular imports into Europe of Riversides started only in the small blue label period.

Rudolf : the LARGE BLUE LABEL is the first label (after the white label, of course) for 241 – around 280. Then comes the SMALL BLUE LABEL (for around 280 – around 330), often taken as the orginal label, by the Japanese collectors (in fact the small label bearing number around 260 and more are second press !!) And around number 330 there is a NEW TYPE OF LARGE LABEL, but with a different type of deep groove (more pronounced)

I’d say that this Griffin sextet is the original. Because 0f the adress on back (553 is correct adress for this one) and because of the large DG label, which also is correct for the period. Anyway it did not sell for 250,which is surprising…Seller relisted it with a Buy it Now price of 350. By the way, i’m looking for a NM or VG++ cover of this one !! I’ve a NM record seating in a poor cover.. if someone has this rarebird…
