Al: congratulations on the acquisition of the Moody’s on Prestige. I started early with my collection of 10″ Blue Notes. I found the uniform art work of the early 10″ Prestige albums a bit boring. Later on they produced some very fine albums, esp. the six New Jazz albums which are fantastic.

The Miles and Clifford Brown records are being sold by the same outfit that is doing those excellent audiophile 45rpm Blue Note reissues.

Al,that Miles(Vol.2) is a favorite of mine,too! I’ve never heard an original pressing of ‘Tempus Fugit’,but if that’s not THE bop anthem,I don’t know what is-Blakey at his best! Classic cover,too. On the other hand,I had the Dexter on Jazzland long ago and unloaded it quickly. I thought it was terrible! As I recall,Dexter seemed in a “haze”,to be kind,and the sidemen-and their performances- pedestrian. Maybe time will treat the session more kindly,but I think of the date as strictly transitional. Long Tall was working his way back after his prison stay,and still throwing off his personal demons..one day at a time.
