Where is everybody? We’re giving away a free record — Leo Parker, Rollin’ With Leo, Blue Note 84095 — and all you have to do to qualify for the contest is to comment on the Jazz Collector site, anwhere, even on items three or four years old. So far, since we put the record up on Friday, we’ve had only a couple of comments. Perhaps jazz collectors aren’t interested in free records???????

Anyway, we hope to see more comments. While we wait, here are a few of the items we’re watching on eBay today: Coleman Hawkins, The Hawk Flies High, Riverside 233. Hawkins usually isn’t among the most collectible of artists, so this might wind up as a bit of a bargain. It’s an original pressing with the white label and it features JJ Johnson on trombone. The record is listed as M- and the cover looks to be VG+, at least. The current price is around $40.

Lester Young, The President, Norgran 1005. This is not for mint collectors. The record looks to be VG and the cover VG+. The price is about $30 and it is an original yellow label. From the same seller is this one, which may be okay for mint collectors: Miles Davis, The Musings of Miles, Prestige 7007. This is an original New York pressing and the seller has listed both the record and the cover as M-. The current price is about $110. 

Finally there’s Lou Donaldson, LD+3, Blue Note 4012. This is an original West 63rd Street pressing that it’s VG+/VG++ condition. The price is about $150 as we go to press.
