Tracking 10-Inch Jazz Vinyl On Blue Note
There seems to be a corresponding hike in prices for 10-inch Blue Notes as well as 12-inch Blue Notes. Here are a few we were watching this week, several from the same seller, including: Lou Donaldson, New Faces, New Sounds, Blue Note 5021. This was an original pressing with the vinyl in M- condition and the cover VG+. It sold for $577. One thing about the 10-inchers: Unless they are a Japanese or United Artists press, you know they are originals.
Lou Donaldson Sextet Volume 2, Blue Note 5055. This one looked to be in VG++ condition for the vinyl and M- for the cover. The price was $667. Another one from the same seller:
Miles Davis, Young Man With a Horn, Blue Note 5013. This was listed in M- condition for the vinyl and VG+ for the cover. The price was $510.
Clifford Brown Quartet, Jazz Time Paris, Blue Note 5047. This listing didn’t have much detail, but t was an original pressing and it seemed to be in VG+ condition. The listing hovered at the $99 start price for a while and the record wound up selling for $337.
the 10′ liberty’s are hard to find, i have 3 of them and some japanese, i am wondering how many liberty pressed,..and did they do the whole series? must by for collecters only, i can’t imagine a commercial market in the seventies for those ..happilly they did!
Strange that the Clifford Brown one did the least…probably the bad listing or VG+ condition..
I sometimes find that 10″ can be an affordable alternative to original 12″ lps. 45s with covers or packaged as a set are nice too. I’ve got a few jukebox sets – first pressings, entire album worth of songs – and was able to get them for a few dollars.
