Tracking a Blue Note Quartet

Been light on the posts again lately. Super busy with real work. Here are a few high-priced jazz records, all Blue Notes,  we missed on eBay:

Sonny Clark Trio, Blue Note 1579. This was an original pressing in M- condition. The price was $1,531.

John Jenkins with Kenny Burrell, Blue Note 1573. This too was an original pressing. The record was in M- condition and the cover was probably VG++. The price was $1,500.

Cliff Jordan, Cliff Craft, Blue Note 1582. Another original pressing, of course, this one in M- condition for the record and VG+ for the cover. This one sold for $1,250.

Lou Donaldson, Wailing with Lou, Blue Note 1545. This was an original pressing in M- condition from the seller who had access to the Leon Leavitt collection. This one sold for $900.

  • Semi-off topic, but I see Atomic is currently selling this record, which cursory google searches didn’t bring anything up for a Curson LP on Melodia:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/TED-CURSON-Live-In-Russia-Rare-Russian-Only-Jazz-LP-/390485811846?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item5aeac4a286

Anybody got info on it? Doesn’t seem to be in Fitzgerald’s discography of Mr. Curson.

  • those prices…. where’s the crisis???

  • …Hope all your LP’s are well anchored down and you’ve got plenty of sandbags down there Al. Hang in there man.

  • Clifford Allen: the label shown by Atomic is revealing. It says:

    Jazz 66.
In concert. The 3rd Moscow Festival of the best jazz ensembles.
Track one: the trio of G. Loukiyanov
Track two: the KM quartet (playing Valse for Natacha)
track three: the I. Brill trio

So no hint of Ted Curson. He may have been around at the festival and maybe he is featured on the other side of the record. Why don’t you ask Atomic to show the other label. I will be happy to translate.

  • Don-Lucky — I’m on the 20th floor. If any flooding reaches up here we’re all doomed, not just my Blue Notes.

  • Glad to hear both you, Mrs.JC and all your LPs braved the storm in one piece Al. Hopefully the same can be said about the Berkshire collection as well… I opted to keep my collections on the second floor, complete with u/v film on the windows just to be safe… Far away from the inquisitive paws of well intentioned dinner guests and other potential liabilities…

  • Glad to hear you’re relatively safe up among the clouds,Al. As long as your “real job” isn’t building an ark,I think I’m ok.

  • After three moves, ending up in sunny Florida where hurricane season runs from August ’til December, I opted to sell most of my collection. Much easier, grab the wife, the cash, the dogs and cats, my horn and I’m gone.
