regarding the drumkit at van Gelders.. in a faint past i used to be drummer, and what was mostly the case when you play a gig or rehearsal on location, you would bring your own cymbals
(and hi-hat) and your own snare drum, cause these are most personalized … I can not imagine that every drummer took his whole kit to Hackensack all the time

Hi Al 🙂 For piano, Rudy had a Baldwin grand as early as 1953 and until early 1955. At that time he got a Steinway B grand, which is still in his Englewood Cliffs studio today. For drums, all the images I’ve seen make it look like each drummer was responsible for bringing their own kit. More info like this at my RVG Legacy website. 🙂
