In my experience I’ve always found “trades” to be a situation where somebody is trying to ‘win’ or get the best of the deal. I think Robert Crumb alluded to this in his interview with Mats Gustafson on his website and I agree. I believe it’s possible for fair and equitable trades if both parties are on the level with each other but it’s a pretty rare scenario I think. I remember many years ago in the days of paper catalogs I’d see dealers listing all these mega expensive psych albums on their want lists and in their trade lists was all these relatively easy to find albums…haha…

Oh,Al-if I had dollar for every bad trade I made BEFORE I learned the monetary value of what I owned… Somewhere,Leon Leavitt is STILL laughing his ass off at my ignorance! That said,there is a reason those early Marvel comics are so damn rare(and expensive). Didn’t EVERYONE toss their comic collections when they hit 14 (not quite)? Although I never made it to Titus Oakes on LI,I did make it to the one in Brooklyn back in the day. I still remember finding the early Blakey Jazz Messengers BN live dates-both volumes-in glorious mono,when companies were dumping their stock in favor of stereo. “Hipsippy Blues”,indeed. Also got Jay Mac’s “New Soil” from same store-$6,original issue. “Those were the days,my friend…”

Offcourse it is all about originals here but I would like to mention that Sam records in France have done a wonderful job in reissuing the Barney Wilen record. Very good pressing and splendid job on the sleeve as well. For those who, like me, can’t afford lots of dollars on this title I highly recommend this.

I think VG++ is an okay grade for the sonny cover. A few marks, but looks to be sturdy and solid with no real issues other than age. also, i had to look REALLY hard to see the DG in those photos.

Wow, that psychedelic graphic in the description of the first Willen auction makes my stomach churn so bad I barely made it to the photos of the actual record. Why they thought this would make good advertising is beyond me.

Hard to say in the late 1980s what the market would’ve been for original Blue Notes and Prestiges thirty years later. I’ve done some bad trades too but ultimately records come into one’s life just as they exit. Someday you’ll score another nice copy, I’m sure of it!

This is quite a record and if affordable I recommend getting Barney never disappoints. Try to find the one with Mimt Jackson and Percy Heath a super record as well .
