I have a copy, which is without doubt an original, acquired in the seventies, which has the matrix stamped in the dead wax, not hand written as yours.
The stamp on side 1 is XCTV 97116 1 A,
Side 2 is XCTV 97117 1 A
The Studio label is unknown and there is no reason to believe your copy, or mine, is not original.
There should be no reference or mention to V.S.O.P., which has re-issued the album in eighties.

I have a Mint copy of this famous LP and I am wondering what would be the criteria to define this LP as an original with a price tag (Mint / Mint) of +USD 2500.
The copy I have: Red label. On both sides the logo Studio 4 on the top
Jazz series J. R. Monterose in Action
Plus the Joe Albani Trio
XCTV-97116 on the left middle, SS100 Side 1 on the right middle
XCTV-97117 on the left middle, SS100 Side 2 on the right middle
On dead wax etching handwritten XCTV 97116 - A-1 on side 1, and XCTV 971167 B-1
Is this LP the Original?
Thank you for your feedback!

interesting story !! Those were the days...by the way...When reading the VSOP Story, i remembered an Ebay shop located in Paris, that featured a VSOP reissue. I quickly jumped to the site to check it out and buy it... it was sold. But when browsing the shop catalogue, there was an Original Helen Merrill on Emarcy (VG+, silver rim !) at 39 $. I quickly bought it, of course...Thank you JR Monterose !! Colombus was looking for India, and discovered America...

Kudos to the gents who produced the VSOP reissue of this fantastic Monterose session. I have never seen an original pressing and now know why. The VSOP sounds amazing and I foolishly sold it to a friend for a few bucks profit thinking I could find another one easily. Over 2 years later I found a Japanese pressing of this reissue for $10 - score! Sounds awesome - one of my favorite quartet dates.
