Well, Maarten and Rudolf, that's a nice bit of extra information I didn't expect! Thanks, it's also what makes 'hanging around' on Jazzcollector so much fun ;-) and at Rudolf: too bad I can't show the 'Weaver of Dreams' clip to my late grandpa any more, I'm sure he would have been able to tell with 100% certainty if it really is the Laren Concertzaal. Still a nice bit of video though!

bad news Mattyman.
During the Kurzaal concerts there were always VARA and/or Philips people active preparing for a recording of the events. Thus we have the LP on Unique Jazz # 19 of the Miles Davis quintet with Trane (is also on CD). The Chet Baker quartet with Dick Twardzik was also recorded that way (18 Sept. 1955)
Do you know the series of the Dutch Jazz Archive? Very valuable. So far Chet quartet, Gerry Mulligan sextet and J.J. with Bobby Jaspar and Tommy Flanagan Over CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

Well, Rudolf, I'm afraid that if they used Ampex video reels for it, they probably reused them for something else. You read that all the time: Ampex reels were so expensive that reusing them was cheaper. It's also the reason why we have lost basically all the episodes from "Ja Zuster, Nee Zuster" ;-) -Only the songs they recorded were ever recorded on film and, hence, still exist. In the early days of Dutch TV, however, a lot of shows (for instance most of the early Toon Hermans) shows were literally filmed off TV screen on film, also known as 'telesync' recordings, but made on good old celluloid. And then later put on Ampex. They have done the same with Dutch Swing College Band performances, so maybe there is a tiny chance that somewhere in The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision (‘Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid’) there are still some of those 'telesync' recordings of that particular Henry Grimes and Pete LaRoca performance with Theodore 'Sonny' Rollins! :-D
