Saxophonist Jerry Sanfino roomed with Stan during their ’45 stint with Benny and said the girls would line up for Stan before the end of the gig. Every night he’d bring back a knockout, while Jerry watched from 2 feet away. finally he couldn’t take it, and when Stan got up after a tryst to shower, Jerry crawled in with one of the babe’s who said “Oh my God Stan…I can’t believe you’re hard again so soon!!” -true story

I think Shelly, Stan (and why not Lou Levy?) would have grasped the meaning of “daven’d”.
What a loss to Europe, and the Soviet Union in particular. Imagine just one moment, that Stan’s parents would have stayed in Odessa. Would Stan have developed into another David Oistrakh?
