Those blue notes are a bit crunchy. Not sure the description was necessary, but good to know that at least not too much writing on the back.

Al indeed has a “poker face”. He was the top poker player when we were kids. I vividly remember how NOT at the top of my game I felt…..at the moment he calmly said “2 press tickets for Bob Porter”. But reading the story now,…. i realize as a journalist….yes, he KNEW this game, and KNEW he could pull it off. Add a brother whose school book reports were based on books that didn’t exist, a father who thought he was Max Roach despite the fact that he couldn’t play drums, a grandmother who decided the songstress at her Roumanian restaurant would be HERSELF……..a socioiopathic cousin who bilked women out of millions, and suddenly this Perlman story of chutzpah & bullshit seems perfectly normal.

I live in Maine. Several years ago there were many local stories commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Muhammad Ali-Sonny Liston fight which took place in Lewiston, Maine on May 25, 1965. (The famous photo of Ali towering over the floored Liston was taken at the Lewiston fight). My favorite story was about a couple of Bates College students who got to see the sold-out match, after waltzing past security, by holding bags of popcorn that they had made in their dorm room.
