Al: I was travelling for 10 days and just returned home. Apparently a lot happened on EBay and I also found your gift album (OJC Prestige 7066) for which I thank you very much. The interesting thing is that this re-issue has 2 tracks which were not on the original 12" album, but only obn the underlying 10" LP's.
I think I owe you a belated appraisal of my favourite Prestige LP. Here it is:
I wish to eliminate all obvious choices such as "Saxophone Colossus", "Rollins + 4", Miles' Bags' Groove etc.
I wish to concentrate on Prestige's force, i.e. Bob Weinstock's ability to mix different cultures and to obtain homogeneous results. This is what distinguishes Prestige from their main competitor Blue Note who went for a uni-cultural approach, at least after Gil Mellé's 1517 album, which is their last multicultural outing.
My favourite Prestige album is: # 7084-"OLIO", combining the talents of 'thinkers' like Teddy Cohen and Malcolm Waldron, of first class soloists like Thad Jones and Frank Wess and the terrific hard bop talents of the early Elvin Jones and Doug Watkins.
It all results in demanding music with in-built tension, and brilliantly executed compositions. Bravissimo Bob Weinstock!

EBay seems slow right now because their search system has been broken for the past week or so. Any search with the "Title And Description" box checked got incomplete results. The problem has still not been fully resolved as of this writing though much has been corrected in the past 24 hours. EBay is crediting the fees of any seller who complains, so complain away if you had items up this past week.

Put my first ever batch of records up on eBay the weekend (ID="dsockel").

Curious to see what happens now that the financial crisis has spread to Asia and Europe, the 2 hotbeds of purchasing. Have no idea what these will go for, but I have putting off selling my dupes for a while. If the market is good, I'll sell more. If not, I guess I will wait.
