Some Questions on Savoy
We posted that item about Savoy the other day and got the following email from Rich, one of our loyal readers. He poses some questions about Savoy. I figured I’d post the question here, also in the interest of making the results easily searchable. Hopefully this will generate some insight about the Savoy label:
“Did you notice that the Klook’s Clique Savoy from the same seller as the Mobley’s Message 2 just went for a few bucks. I have a good copy. I did not have a chance to bid. Even with a good copy I would have gone to $100 anyway.
I am confused about Savoy. I know there are a lot of bootlegs. I guess the blood red labels may be OK. However, this was billed as an original just like the Mobley which commands bucks while this Klook’s went for dirt. I know the Mobley’s are hot but am I missing something?
I just don’t feel too comfortable about Savoys anyway. It seems at least to me with my current knowledge that they are hard to authenticate.
Anyway, I would love to get some input.

This Savoy is original. Haven’t heard about Savoy bootlegs. Klook’s clique certainly do not commafd high prices as Mobley’s 1 and 2 anyway.
the early original Savoys came in sealed loose bags without a protective inner sleeve. The label is blood red with deep grooves; vinyl has a rim, no flat edge, except for very mow catalogue numbers, which also have on the label “for phonographic home use only”. The covers (often with black/white photos) were laminated, the front totally covered with art paper, which was then bent over to the backside and glued on the back with the white paper of the liner notes.
The copy of Klook’s Clique as shown is an original. Unfortunately John LaPorta, Kmook and Ronnie Ball are not in demand anymore. But he record is great, I love it.

This record uesd to sell for around 100/150 $ two years back. Now i don’t know. But this record is rare and fine !
