Win A Free Collectible: Original Bird on Savoy
Okay, we are going to celebrate the impending end of summer with our best give-away to date: This is a genuine collectible, an original pressing of an all-time great LP: Charlie Parker Memorial, Savoy 12000. Yes, this is an original pressing with the red Savoy label and the deep groove. The record is not in perfect condition, but it sounds real nice, with just enough surface noise to certify it’s authenticity as a release from the mid-1950s. This features Bird in a variety of settings, with Miles Davis, Bud Powell, Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Duke Jordan, Curley Russell and others. It’s a mix of Bird’s Savoy material, from his earliest dates with Tiny Grimes, to his tenor sessions with Miles, to classics such as Steeplechase and Barbados. In order to be eligible to win this record, all you have to do is
comment on the Jazz Collector site between now and when the contest closes, which will be on Labor Day in the States, September 7. Please, please, please comment. We want to have our best contest yet. Even if you have this record, the cover on this copy is well suitable for framing. There will be one winner, as always, selected at random by the lovely Mrs. JC who is somewhat flummoxed that we would be giving away such a rare and lovely item. We do have more than one copy, of course. Also, we had promised an old article we had written years ago on Bird. In honor of this contest, we will finally sit down and manually copy that article and post it while we enjoy our time up in the beautiful Berkshires mountains of Western Massachusetts, where we will continue to blog every day, because that’s what we do at Jazz Collector
2 days ago i bought my first Charlie Parker; Memorial vol;3 this is on the french savoy-musidisc label (SA6009) , but i think i see some of the same numbers on the free collectable disc.
But not all of them… I guess the savoy-musidisc are pressings from a later date? There are at least 3 volumes, does this also aply to the savoy blood label issues?
Savoy blood label had 5 vols. MG-12000,-01,-09,-14,-79.
I got this at a garage sale. Got it home and found a different lp inside. Should always check but in this case I didn’t. Would be glad to actually have this lp.
