Clearing out my Jazz Collector email inbox. The 2026 WFMU Record Fair will be held at the Metropolitan Pavillion in Manhattan for three days, November 6, 7 and 8. I used to be a regular at this show, either as a seller or patron. I haven’t been in years, since before Covid. I would love to check it out this year, just to see how the market has changed and get a sense of what dealers are selling, and for how much.If you are thinking about attending, keep me posted. Maybe we can have a Jazz Collector meet up. Read more

A Jazz Vinyl Christmas on eBay
Merry Christmas! Let’s look at some jazz vinyl from eBay that may be on the wish lists of Jazz Collectors everywhere, starting with: Sahib Shihab, Sahib’s Dance Party, Debut 141. This looks to be an original Debut Denmark pressing listed in M- condition for the record and VG++ for the cover. The bidding is in the $500 range with nearly four days left on the auction. There are already 13 bidders and more than 30 bids. This record has sold for more than $1,000 several times, with a high of about $1,600, according to Popsike. I’ve never owned a copy of this record, let alone listened to it. I take it the high value placed on the record is a tribute not just to its rarity, but to the quality of the music as well? Read more

Rare Records; The Loss of Michael Cuscuna
I said I would continue perusing the recent auctions from The Jazz Record Center, so here is Part II, starting with Elvin Jones and Richard Davis, Heavy Sounds, Impulse AS-9160. This was ana original white label stereo promo copy with the white label. The record was in M- condition and the cover seemed to be probably VG++. This is not a record you see very often, particularly a promo copy. One of the interesting things about this album is a track called Elvin’s Guitar Blues, featuring Elvin Jones’ first recording on a new instrument, the acoustic guitar. I happen to have an original pressing of this record, so I’m putting Elvin’s Guitar Blues on the turntable now. The verdict: Well, I’m sure it was fun for Elvin to record a track on guitar, but he’s a little bit better as a drummer. Frank Foster takes a nice, short blues solo on the track. The record sold for $339. Read more
