Art Pepper, Modern Art, Intro 606. This was an original pressing in M- condition, sold by our friend Steve at Round Again Records in Providence, RI. The price was $1,978. And if you happen to be in Providence, check out A Christmas Carol at Trinity Rep, directed by Young JC, otherwise known as my son Michael.

Lorraine Geller at the Piano, Dot 3174. This looked to be in M- condition and sold for $1,580. I haven’t seen this record, but I had no idea it was such a valuable collectible. Is it any good, or is it just rare?

The next one is good and it’s rare, although it does seem to pop on eBay quite often for an extremely rare record, wouldn’t you say:

Sonny Rollins, Saxophone Colossus, Prestige 7079. This was an original pressing that looked to be in M- condition. The price was $1,495, which, and it pains me to even write this, seems a little low.

John Coltrane, Giant Steps, Atlantic 1311. This was a beautiful looking copy, listed in M- condition for the record and the cover. It sold for $1,385.

Tommy Flanagan Overseas,Prestige 7134. This was an original pressing that seemed to be in about VG+ condition with “extremely light surface noise,” whatever that means. It sold for $1,055.
The post Five For the $1,000 Bin first appeared on jazzcollector.com.

We are up in the lovely Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts, sitting on our porch with the lovely Mrs. JC, and looking at jazz records on eBay. Life is not bad. Here are a few items we will be entering into the Jazz Collector Price Guide sometime before the end of the weekend.

John Coltrane, A Love Supreme, Impulse A-77. This was an original stereo pressing with the orange label and gatefold cover. It was in M- condition, both record and cover. It sold or $150. One of the reasons I’m putting this up is that I recently acquired a mono copy in M- to go with my stereo copy, also in M- condition, and I am currently deciding whether to keep both or put one up for auction on eBay, or, perhaps, even sell it here on Jazz Collector. I am open to offers and/or suggestions.

Thelonious Monk, Prestige 7053. This was an original pressing with the cover design by Andy Warhol. It was in VG++/VG++ condition

and sold for $810.

Hank Mobley, Blue Note 1544. This was a West 63rd Street pressing. The record was listed as VG++ and the cover was listed as G. The price was $276.28.

Eddie Costa, House of Blue Lights, Dot 3206. This was an original pressing in M- condition, both record and cover. Price: $543

Sonny Rollins, Worktime, Prestige 7020. This was an original New York pressing, also in M- condition, both record and cover. Price: $541

Dexter Gordon, Daddy Plays the Horn, Bethlehem 36. This was an original red label pressing. The record was M- and the cover was VG++. The price was $392.

Jackie McLean, 4, 5 and 6, Prestige 7048. This was an original New York pressing. The record was VG and the cover was VG+. The price was $328.
The post For the Price Guide: Trane, Sonny, Monk, Mobley first appeared on jazzcollector.com.
