Don Sleet, All Members, Jazzland 45. This was an original orange label mono pressing. The record looked to be VG++ and the cover was listed as VG. The price was $94.

Mike Cuozzo with the Costa-Burke Trio, Jubilee 1027. This was an original pressing and the value is certainly aided by the presence of Eddie Costa. It was only in VG condition for the record and the cover and still sold for $108.50.

Bill Perkins, Just Friends, Pacific Jazz 401. This was an original pressing sold by the Jazz Record Center. It was in excellent condition — the words “immaculate” and “exceptional” were used in the description. It also benefitted from the presence of strong sidemen, in this case Art Pepper and Richie Kamuca. The price was $330.55.

Johnny Hodges, Perdido, Norgran 1091. This was a black-label pressing, which I think is an original. At some point, we will need to do in Norgran what we are doing in Blue Note and Prestige and come up with some definitive information about yellow and black labels, logos, etc. This was in beautiful M- condition and sold for $90.47.

Rene Thomas and Bobby Jaspar, Thomas Jaspar Quintet, RCA PML 10324. This was an original Italian pressing and, frankly, I’ve never seen or heard of this LP before. It looks like a nice cover and the players are certainly excellent, so I imagine it is quite a find. This one was in M- condition for the vinyl and VG++ for the cover and sold for $700. If anyone has more insight on this record, please feel welcome to share it.

First there were those beautiful 10-inch Blue Notes: Clifford Brown, New Star on the Horizon, Blue Note 5032. This was an original Lexington Avenue pressing listed in M- condition for the vinyl and what we would characterize as VG++ for the cover. A beautiful copy. It sold for $535.49. From the same seller was this: Miles Davis Volume 2, Blue  Note 5022. This was in similar condition to the Clifford record and sold for $630.

That brilliant copy of Thelonious Monk, Brilliant Corners, Riverside 226, did not reach the  $1,000 bin, to my surprise. This was a white-label pressing in M- condition for both the record and the cover. It sold for $898.08.

We’ve never seen a copy of this record fetch a higher price:

Cattin’ With John Coltrane and Paul Quinichette, Prestige 7158. This was a promo copy and it was sold by the Jazz Record Center. It was in near-mint condition and sold for $435. This was from the same auction and also fetched a higher-than-usual price: The Resurgence of Dexter Gordon, Jazzland 29. This was an original orange label pressing that seemed to be in new condition. It sold for $178.38.

Miles Davis Volume 2, Blue Note 5022. This one is M- for the record and at least VG++ for the cover and the picture looks absolutely pristine. What a beauty. The price is already more than $300 and it is not going to find a place on my shelf.  This one is from the same seller and looks equally appealing: Clifford Brown, New Star on the Horizon, Blue Note 5032. Same deal as the Miles: M- vinyl, beautiful cover, incredible crystal clear picture. It’s also more than $300 with more than a day to go.

Also on eBay now is an auction from the Jazz Record Center including:

Booker Ervin, That’s It!, Candid 8014. This is an original pressing in M- condition. It’s at more than $200. The Resurgence of Dexter Gordon, Jazzland 29. This is an original orange label pressing in M- condition. I’ve never understood why this wasn’t treated as more of a collectible. It’s Dexter right before Blue Note and it’s an original Jazzland pressing, not a Riverside reissue. This one is at $75, which is higher than usual for this record. It’s also a terrific record.

Here’s another non Blue Note for the $1,000 bin: Dexter Gordon, Dexter Blows Hot and Cool, Dootone 207. This was an original red vinyl pressing. The record was listed as VG++ and the cover was VG+. The price was $1,137.

This one really got top dollar, more than you would normally expect to see for a Jazzland LP:

Charlie Rouse, Takin’ Care of Business, Jazzland 19. This was an original orange label pressing that was in M- condition for both the vinyl and the cover. It sold for $201.50, the highest price we’ve seen for this record.

Lou Donaldson, Wailing With Lou, Blue Note 1545. Love this record. This is an original pressing. The cover is VG- and the vinyl is somewhere between VG+ and VG++, based on the description. The current price is around $100 and it is closing today and it is quite tempting since the copy in my collection is a Japanese pressing. Somehow I have to re-convince myself that I am to be getting rid of records, not acquiring them. Speaking of which . . . I did well yesterday. I stopped in at my favorite local store, Infinity Records on Long Island, and he had there a copy of Elmo Hope Quintet, Blue Note 5044. This is a 10-inch LP featuring Frank Foster. I had this at one point and, regrettably, sold it for about $400. My copy was in excellent condition. The one in the store yesterday was VG for the record and maybe VG- for the cover. The price was

$100, which was fair, and I decided to pass. I viewed this as an accomplishment, a sign of personal growth. Of course, it also leaves me more money to bid on this Lou Donaldson LP.

This seller has some nice items worth perusing, including: Lee Morgan, Indeed, Blue Note 1538. This is an original Lexington Avenue pressing. The record is listed as VG+ and the cover is VG. It does look nice and the price is a little over $400 and there are several days to go.

Here’s another copy of Tommy Flanagan Overseas, Prestige 7134. This is an original pressing that looks to be in VG+ condition for both the record and the vinyl. The current price is about $400 and there are a few hours to go so perhaps this one will sell for less than $1,000? I wouldn’t count on it.

Here’s another sealed record dilemma: Joe Harriott, Southern Horizons, Jazzland 37. This is a mono pressing and it would presume to be original, but until you open it you can never tell for sure. This one is already at $225. A copy in M- condition last week sold for about $190.

This one almost made the $1,000 bin: Horace Parlan, Us Three, Blue Note 4037. The record and the cover both looked to be in VG++ condition. The price was $912.

I didn’t realize this one had such cachet as a collectible: Don Friedman, Circle Waltz, Riverside 431. The vinyl was M- and the cover was VG++. The price was $255.

This one falls into the same category: When did it become a $200-range record?

Joe Harriott Quintet, Southern Horizons, Jazzland 37. This was listed in M- condition and sold for $191.50.

Finally, here are a couple more Blue Notes: Dizzy Reece, Soundin’ Off, Blue Note 4033. This was an original pressing listed in M- condition for both the vinyl and the cover. The price was $486. Paul Chambers Quintet, Blue Note 1564. This was an original pressing. The vinyl looked to be VG++ and the cover was listed as VG+. The price was $393. Not bad.

Introducing Lee Morgan with the Hank Mobley Quintet, Savoy 12091. We’ve seen original copies of this record in nice condition selling for more than $500 in the Jazz Collector Price Guide, so a new, unplayed original would be worth quite a bit. But is this an original? Only the buyer will know if, indeed, the buyer ever opens it. In this case the buyer is spending $161.50 to find out.

This one was also tempting:

Surf Ride Featuring Art Pepper, Savoy 12090. This was also sealed. The price was $150.

We were watching this record because it is a second pressing and it seemed to be getting some action: Zoot Sims, Zoot, Jazzland 2. This was an orange label pressing and it had the deep groove, but it is a reissue of Zoot!, Riverside 228. This one was in VG+ condition for the vinyl and VG++ for the cover and it sold for $77.99, which is not bad for a Jazzland and not bad for a reissue.

My alter ego AJdoctor will be returning to eBay today after a lengthy absence of several weeks. I’ve got a couple of Jazzland LPs I’m putting up as well as a copy of Stan Levey This Time the Drum’s on Me, an original Bethlehem with some rare Dexter Gordon. Keep an eye out. It’s good to be back.

Art Blakey, A Night at Birdland Volume 3, Blue Note 5039. This is an original 10-inch LP in M- condition. The current price is $235.50. Another Blue Note is Horace Parlan, Up and Down, Blue Note 4082. This is a New York USA pressing

and is listed in VG+ condition, both the record and cover. The current price is about $35. 

Monica Zetterlund, Waltz for Debby, Phillips 08222. This is an original Swedish pressing of this great LP featuring Bill Evans on piano. The vinyl looks to be in VG+ condition and the cover M-. The current price is  $271. 

The seller Atomic Records has a few nice items, including Herbie Hancock, Inventions & Dimensions, Blue Note 84147. This is an original stereo pressing with the New York USA label. The record is listed as M- and the cover looks to be a strong VG+. The current price is $150. 

Finally, this seller based in Germany, Classics-and-jazz, has several nice items closing within the next day, including Kenny Dorham, Whistle Stop, Blue Note 4063. This is an original West 63rd Street pressing. The record is listed as M- and the cover as VG++. The current price is $152. From the same seller is one of our favorite LPs, Sheila Jordan, Portrait of Sheila, Blue Note 9003. This is an original pressing. The record is listed as M- and the cover is VG+. The price is only $21.50 as of now.
