This week’s theme: Ella Fitzgerald, Live in Helsinki, 1963 and 1965, The Lost Recordings. This show features Ella Fitzgerald in two concerts recorded live in Helsinki. The music had not been available but was “rediscovered.” We purchased the record to get a sense of the quality of the recordings on this relatively new French label that specializes in finding live performances that have never appeared on vinyl and music that was often never heard or heard once. The label has been primarily focused on Europe. In any case, the quality of the recording is excellent, as is the music, so we devoted this entire show to the album. And, we plan on purchasing more. Any recommendations from our readers here at JazzCollector.com. Personnel on this album is Ella Fitzgerald, Tommy Flanagan, Les Spann, Jim Hughart, Keeter Betts, Gus Johnson.
The post Ella, Lost, Found, Live first appeared on jazzcollector.com.
