This one made the $1,000 bin, but not the $2,000 bin: Tina Brooks, True Blue, Blue Note 4041. This was an original pressing with the record in M- condition and the cover VG+. I thought it might pass $2,000 but it sold for $1,703.77.

Is this now becoming a collectible: Thelonious Monk, Monk’s Dream, Columbia 1965? It’s a great record to be sure, but it seems to have been pretty common. Anyway, this was a 2-eye mono pressing in M- condition for the record and VG+ for the cover and it sold for $61.

And this one, I always thought was a high-end collectible, but there’s something odd about this listing: John Mehegan, A Casual Affair. In my collection, the number on this record is TJ-A1. On this listing, the number is TJ 78463. Perhaps that’s why it only sold for $64.
The post Watching Some Collectibles & Not-So-Collectibles first appeared on jazzcollector.com.

Time to follow up on some records we’ve been watching.

Remember that 10-inch Hank Mobley record on Blue Note from yesterday: Hank Mobley Quartet, Blue Note 5066? When we spotted it, the price was around $65 with a couple of hours to go. The record was in VG- condition and the cover was just VG, barely. We figured it may go as high as $100? It sold for $274.

On the other hand, there was this record: John Mehegan, Casual Affair, TJ1. This record features Kenny Dorham and has always been a nice collectible. When we spotted this one it was at $7 with an hour or so to go. We put in a bid of $41.41 and it was topped at $42.41. I assume if the seller had done a better job with the listing, it could have sold for a bit more. We don’t have it listed at this point in the Jazz Collector Price Guide, but we’ve seen this record sell for more than $100 in the past.

Also, that copy of John Coltrane, Blue Train, Blue Note 1577:

This was the one where the condition was not quite clear from the listing. It found a buyer at $199.99. The Lee Morgan, Lee-Way, Blue Note 4034? That one sold for $382.
The post Catching Up: Mobley, Mehegan, Morgan, Trane first appeared on jazzcollector.com.
