On eBay Now: Some Nice 10-Inchers, Trane, Evans

Some of the heavy-duty jazz vinyl sellers have auctions closing in the next couple of days, so let’s see what’s coming up. We had mentioned Jazz Record Center and some of the 10-inch LPs. So far, the American 10-inch Blue Note is beating out the original French Vogue: The Gigi Gryce and Clifford Brown Sextet, Blue Note 5048, is currently at $107 with two bidders (it should sell for a lot more), while the original French Vogue, Gigi Gryce and his Orchestra Featuring Clifford Brown, Vogue 173 is at $100 with one bidder (it too should sell for a lot more). Jazz Record Center also has a few nice 12-inch LPs we are watching, including this one: Wheelin’ and Dealin’, Prestige 7131. This is an original New York pressing in near mint condition. It features an all-star sax lineup of John Coltrane, Paul Quinichette and Frank Wess. It is currently in the $300 price range.

Our friends at Euclid Records also have some nice items this week, including:

For Blue Note, More Prestige Than Prestige

Here are some nice records we’ve been watching. Each of these will be added to the Jazz Collector Price Guide.

Phil Woods, Pairing Off, Prestige 7046. This looked to be a beautiful copy of an extremely nice record and it was graded in M- condition for both the vinyl and the cover. The price was $344.90, which actually seems pretty low to us. By comparison, for example, look at this record: The Magnificent Thad Jones Volume 3, Blue Note 1546. This was an original West 63rd Street pressing from a reputable seller. The record was in VG+ condition, at best, for the vinyl and VG condition for the cover. The price was $800. Is there really that big a gap

More Jazz Vinyl on eBay: Cannon, Young, Mobley

We promised a few more items to watch this weekend, so here goes:

Cannonball Adderley, Sophisticated Swing, Emarcy 36110. There was a lot of discussion on the site the other day after we posted the Jazz Collector “Essential” Cannonball Adderley. Generally the Cannonball LPs don’t get collector prices, so we were surprised to see this one the other day at $75. The price hasn’t budged since then, so perhaps it won’t go much higher, which is still beyond what we normally see for this album. The record is in M- condition and the cover is VG or VG+.

Webster Young, For Lady, Prestige 7106. This is quite a nice record, with some beautiful tenor sax by Paul Quinichette, playing (as always) as close to Pres as Pres himself.  This is an original New York pressing that is listed in M- condition for both the record and the cover. It is being sold by herschel78, who has been posting some nice items the past few weeks, and has some more nice items on eBay now, so it’s worth taking a look. This one is currently at $300 with about nine hours to go.

Here’s one that’s a bit of a surprise:
