From the same seller: Harold Vick, Steppin’ Out, Blue Note 4138. This was also an original mono pressing with the New York USA label. It was listed in Ex+ condition for the record and M- for the cover. It sold for $621.92.

Mal Waldron, Left Alone, Bethlehem 6045. This was an original red label pressing. The record was probably VG+ and the cover was listed as VG. The final price was $745.55.

Tony Fruscella, Atlantic 1220. This was an original black label pressing. The record was in M- condition and the cover looked to be about VG++. The final price was $415.

Clifford Brown Quartet, Blue Note 5047. This was an original 10-inch pressing. The record was listed in VG+ condition and the cover was VG. The price was $409.04.

Art Farmer Quintet Featuring Gigi Gryce, Prestige 7017. This was an original New York yellow label listed in Ex- condition for both the record and the cover. The final price was $370.55.

Sonny Criss, Jazz-USA, Imperial 9006. This was an original pressing listed in VG+ condition for the record and the cover. It sold for $356.90.

This is another nice one that doesn’t have any action yet: Sonny Criss, Go Man, Imperial 9020. This looks to be an original pressing. The seller lists in in VG++ condition, but based on the descriptions it looks more like VG+ to me. The start price is $200 with more than a day left on the auction.

This one has a lot of action and a real high price, yet it still may not sell: Lee Morgan, Indeed, Blue Note 1538. This is an original Lexington Avenue pressing. According to the seller this copy is not only in M- condition, it has to be, and I quote, “the finest on planet earth.” The bidding is close to $1,700 with four days left, but it has not reached the seller’s reserve price, although it probably will get more action as it nears the end. Despite the platitudes, I will keep searching for another copy, even if I must travel to Mars.

Hank Mobley Sextet, Blue Note 1650. This is an original West 63rd, deep-groove pressing. The record is in VG++ condition and the cover is VG. The bidding is getting close to $700 with three days to go.

Here’s one for the $1,000 bin: Sonny Criss, Go Man, Imperial 9020. This is a weird cover, isn’t it: Two white people, with a lot of nice leg, and no indication that this might be a black artist playing jazz. Anyway, this one was in M- condition for the record and VG++ for the cover. It sold for $1.292.

J. R. Monterose, Blue Note 1536. This was an original Lexington Avenue pressing. The record was somewhere between VG and VG++, which means the seller said it didn’t look so great but it sounded great. Gotta love those old Blue Notes. The cover was a clear VG. The price as a clear $787.

Betty Blake Sings in a Tender Mood, Bethlehem 6058. This is another one I’ve never seen or heard. How is it? It features Zoot Sims, Roland Alexander and Mal Waldron, among others, so I imagine it is quite interesting. This one was in VG+ condition for both the record and the cover. It sold for $735.55

We were somewhat surprised to see this one in the $1,000 bin, considering that the market seems a bit down these days: Sonny Criss, Go Man, Imperial 9020. There were 28 bids, which is a lot. It was a very reputable seller, the record was in M- condition, and the cover was VG+. The price was $1,259.

This one was only in VG condition for the record and the cover, yet is still nearly made the $1,000 bin: Lawrence Marable, Tenorman, Jazz West 8. This one even had audible scuffs. Nevertheless, it sold for $909.99.

One of my all-time favorite records, in M- condition for the record and VG++ for the cover: John Coltrane, Soultrane, Prestige 7142. This one sold for $338.99

George Wallington, Jazz For the Carriage Trade, Prestige 7032. This was an original New York pressing with a record in M- condition and a nice shiny cover in VG++ condition. It sold for $395.

Sonny Criss Plays Cole Porter, Imperial 9024. This looked to be an original pressing in M- condition for both the record and the cover. It sold for $350.99.

Lou Donaldson, Swing and Soul, Blue Note 1566. This was one of the recent records sold by the Jazz Record Center. It was in M- condition for both the record and the cover and it sold for $544.44.

From that same auction were these:

The Wes Montgomery Trio, Riverside 310. This was an original pressing in M- condition and sold for $305, the highest price we’ve seen for this record.

Sonny Clark, Leapin’ and Lopin’, Blue Note 4091. This was an original pressing also in M- condition. It sold for $430. Dexter Gordon, One Flight Up, Blue Note 4175. This was an original pressing that sold for $342. Finally, there was Kenny Drew, Undercurrent, Blue Note 4059. This was the ostensible second pressing with the deep groove on side one only. This was in M- condition and sold for $1,202.77.

George Wallington, Jazz for the Carriage Trade, Prestige 7032. This is an original New York pressing that looks to be in extremely nice condition. The record is graded M- and the cover is VG++. I haven’t often seen this record witht he front cover looking so clean. This one is priced at about $180 with nearly three more days to go.

Sonny Criss Plays Cole Porter, Imperial 9024. This looks to be an original deep groove pressing in VG++ condition for both the record and the cover. This is also in the $180 price range with less than a day to go.

This one has yet to meet the seller’s reserve price: Pete La Roca, Basra, Blue Note 4205. This is an original New York USA pressing with the ear and it is listed in M- condition for both the record and the cover, still in its original shrink wrap. This is just in the $100 range at this point and it will be interesting to see if it catches up to the seller’s reserve.

This one doesn’t have any bidders yet: Sonny Rollins, Blue Note 1542. This looks to be an original Lexington Avenue pressing with the flat edge. It is listed in M- condition for the vinyl and VG+ for the cover. The start price is $499 and there are more than two days to go as I type this. My bet is the record sells.

Not sure if this one will sell, at least perhaps not at the current start price, although you never know these days: Hank Mobley Quartet, Blue Note 5066. This is the original 10-inch LP with the Lexington Avenue address and it is listed in M- condition for both the record and the cover. Quite a nice piece and the start price reflects that: Approximately $2,000.
