This was an original West 63rd Street pressing listed in VG+ condition for the record and the cover. The final price was $3,000. Kenny Dorham, Quiet Kenny, New Jazz 8225. This was an original purple label mono with deep grooves. The record was VG and the cover as VG+. The final price was $1,598. Doug Watkins, Watkins at Large, Transition 20. This was an original pressing with the booklet. The record and cover were VG. The final price was $1,415.

If you happen to anywhere near the area of Woodstock, NY, this weekend one of our loyal readers is running a record show in two locations. He promises lots of dealers and lots of records. The event is on Saturday and details can be found at The Woodstock Vinyl Co-Op. Alas, I would love to be there, but we have guests coming in from California for the Memorial Day weekend. Unless I can convince them that a day in Woodstock would be a lovely break. Hmmmm.

Another record show, the New Jersey Jazz Record Collector’s Bash is coming back after a Covid hiatus. The event will take place Oct. 27-29 in Edison, N.J. You can check it out here.

This came in from another collector: “I have a vinyl copy of So Much Guitar by Wes Montgomery and on the front cover Ron Carter is spelled Ron Cartar. Is this a rarity?”  I checked out my copy, which is an original pressing (or so I think) and Ron Carter is Ron Carter. Does anyone have any insight into this one?

This from our friend Maarten Kools: Sonny Clark, Sonny’s Crib, Blue Note 1576. It is a beat up cover, no record. The seller calls it VG+. I’d call it VG-, generously. You can buy it now for $499.99. Don’t all jump at once or we might crash the internet. Maarten, always gentle and generous with his comments, said: “Do not mean to post this in a negative way . . . hey, if you can sell this one for $499, I am happy for that person.” The note came in from Maarten at the end of April and it seems the cover is still for sale.

I had an hour and a half to kill the other night and flipping through Amazon Prime I noticed a documentary called Vinyl Nation. Nothing about collecting jazz in there, but worth watching just to hear people talking about their love of records and to see some interesting footage about how records are actually produced and pressed.
