Rudolf,

As a follow-up, I have managed to get to the bottom of this, digging on popsike.

BN 5049
Side One contains the following tunes:
Brown Skins
La Rose Noire
Deltitnu

Side Two tracks are as follows:
Bum’s Rush
Keeping Up with Jonesy
Quick Step

BN 5050
Side One contains the following tunes:
All Weird
Strike Up The Band
Hello
Side Two tracks are as follows:
Chez Moi
Paris The Beautiful

So it would appear the BN releases were not mirrors of Vogue. A bit of trivia, I guess.

But thank you for taking the time and effort - much appreciated.

Hi Rudolf,

Super, thank you.

I also have the French Vogue releases - they really are a great record of those guys doing out-of-school recordings whilst on Lionel Hampton's Big Band tour.

I'm trying to find out if the Blue Note releases had the same running order as the Vogue releases.

Certainly for 5048 and LD 175, they are different, so it would seem it was not a straight copy of the masters.

Neil: I just checked the track listings of # 5048:
Baby, Minority, Salute to the band and Strictly romantic.
The cover design is a terrific Melle/Wolff collaboration on a yellow background and a picture of Gigi and Cliff each.
For 5049 and 5050 we have got to rely on Cuscuna/Ruppli and Jepsen.

Neil:
here is what I found:
Blue Note issued 5 10" albums leased from Vogue records France.
5047-Clifford Brown qrt
5048-Gigi Gryce/Clifford Brown sextet
5049, 5050 and 5051-Gigi Gryce and his little Band, vol. 1, 2 and 3.
5047= Fr Vogue LD 179= English Vogue LDE 042
5048= Fr Vogue LD 175= English Vogue LDE 048
5049= Fr Vogue LD 173= English Vogue LDE 070
5050= no French issue, but = English Vogue LDE 113.
5051 has no French or English equivalents.
French Vogue issued in the late fifties 2 12" LPs with similar material and in the sixties still another 2 12" albums. These 4 albums constitute the total output of the Brown/Gryce and Farmer sessions for Vogue Paris 1953.
I have LD 179 and BLP 5048 and the 4 12 inchers.
Feel free to ask any questions, cheers
