Once Again, The Familiar Allure of Rare Jazz Vinyl

Cliff Jordan Jazz VinylNo I know I am truly back from vacation. Got up early this morning and went right to eBay to look for rare jazz records. Here are a few that I found, starting with: Cliff Jordan, Cliff Craft, Blue Note 1582. This is an original West 63rd Street pressing with the deep grooves, ear, etc. The record is listed in VG++ condition and the cover is VG+. I still don’t have an original pressing of this LP. This one is now in the $300 range with more than four days to go. It will surely sell for a price outside of my comfort zone, so I’ll keep looking.

Hank Mobley, Hank Mobley Sextet, Blue Note 1560. This is also an original deep-groove West 63rd Street pressing. The record is listed in VG++ condition and the cover is VG+. This one closes today and the price is in the $500 range.

Jackie McLean, McLean’s Scene, New Jazz 8212. This looks to be an original mono pressing with the purple labels. The record and the cover are both listed in Ex condition without a lot of description, nor a lot of pictures. The seller could certainly do a better job in order to get the price he is seeking, which is at least $350. As of yet, with less than two days left on the auction, there are no bidders.

Also, just catching up on some of the comments from my time away. I never did make it to that store in San Diego, nor did I make it to any other record store, nor did I take advantage of legalized marijuana during my stay in Colorado. When I put that all together in a single sentence, it sounds like I ought to go back and start again, right?

  • Al –
if you had taken advantage of the relaxed drug law and then gone record shopping…you could have come back with some pretty interesting records! 😉

i always thought clifford jordan looked really goofy on the cover of that LP. haha.

  • Hi everyone, I am looking for a cover for Blue Note 1559 Johnny Griffin A blowing session. Or if you have a beater copy with a decent copy please let me know. Thanks

  • Having returned from Denver last week and partaken in both pursuits, I can say that the vinyl purchases clearly won out. I was also straight enough to avoid the temptation of buying a VG copy of Kenny Dorham Arrival on Jaro for $250. Couple of puffs or VG+, and the outcome could have been different.

  • There are good records in Colorado, for sure.

  • I am jones-in’ for my Jazzcollector fix this month. Al, can you hire an intern in August?

  • It’s funny how addictive this great site is. I drop in every day hoping for an update and when there’s a gap in transmissions it actually makes me realize what a fabulous job Al does posting the amount of updates he does year in year out. I for one could never keep up the workflow on this site demands. I love reading all your comments and send a fond thank you to Al for the knowledge, insights and pleasure his site provides.

  • We want Al … We want Al … We want Al … (all together now). Thanks Al for all you do!
