Speaking of Monk, there is:

The Unique Thelonious Monk, Riverside 209. This is an original white label pressing with the original photograph cover. The record is probably in the VG++ range. The seller calls it M-, but then says that the audio is Ex. Seems to me that the audio is slightly more important than the appearance of the record. The cover is listed as M-, straight-ahead with no explanations. This one has less than a day to go on the auction and is also close to $400.

Here’s one that’s new to me: Starring Zoot Sims, London Ducretet-Thomson D-93099. This is a 10-inch record issued in the U.K., featuring Jon Eardley and Henri Renaud. A quick Google search confirms that the record has been reissued in CD format, but what about vinyl? Can anyone tell us? This copy is in M- condition for the record and cover and has a start price of $300 with no takers, so far.

Sonny Rollins, Way Out West, Contemporary 3530. This looks to be an original pressing with the yellow label and deep grooves. The seller calls it an original, but I think he may not be fully aware. It would have been better if he had included a picture of the back cover so that potential bidders could see, if indeed, the cover had the red writing to confirm its provenance. This one is listed in VG+ condition for both the record and the cover. The start price is $250 and, as of now, there are no bidders. The same seller also has: Lee Morgan, The Cooker, Blue Note 1578. This also looks to be an original pressing, listed in VG condition for the record and Ex for the cover. The starting price is $400 and so far there are no bids.

Atomic Records continues to have some nice items on eBay. We are still watching that copy of Tommy Flanagan Overseas, which closes tomorrow. We are also watching:

Lee Morgan, City Lights, Blue Note 1575. This is an original pressing in VG++ condition for the record and VG for the cover. There are still five days left on the bidding and the auction is already in the $260 range.

Another Blue Note: Johnny Griffin, The Congregation, Blue Note 1580. This looks to be an original pressing and, of course, it has the Andy Warhol cover. The record is listed in Ex condition and the cover is listed as VG+. The price is in the $400 range and there are more than two days left in the auction.

This looks like a rerun:

Tommy Flanagan, Overseas, Prestige 7134. This is offered from Atomic Records and it seems to be the same one that sold on eBay recently for $3,383. It is in M- condition for the record and VG++ for the cover. It just went up on eBay and the bidding is at $400. We’ll see if it approaches the $3,000 barrier again.

Atomic Records also has a few nice items on eBay now, including: George Wallington, Jazz For the Carriage Trade, Prestige 7032. This is an original New York pressing. The condition of the vinyl looks to be about VG++ and the cover VG+ or a little better. The current price is more than $300, but it hasn’t yet reached the seller’s reserve. From the same seller is this item:

Lester Young, The President, Norgran 1005. This is an original yellow label pressing with the cover design by David Stone Martin. The record is VG++ and the cover looks to be VG+. The current price is about $150 with more than a day to go.

Webster Young, For Lady, Prestige 7106. This one is a personal favorite, very nice record if you’re not familiar with it. This one is being offered by Atomic Records and it looks to be in VG++ condition for both the vinyl and the cover. The current price is about $315 and there are a few hours still to go. The same seller has this item: Lester Young and Buddy Rich Trio, Norgran 1074. This is a black label pressing, which I usually assume is a second press, although I think this may be an original: I’m not sure when it was issued and if Norgran had switched to black labels, but I know the copy in my collection is a black label as well. This one is in M- condition for the vinyl and VG+ for the cover. The current price is about $75.

This seller also has some nice items closing fairly soon, including: Jutta Hipp With Zoot Sims, Blue Note 1530. This looks to be an original Lexington Avenue pressing. The record is listed as M- and the cover is listed as VG+. The current price is around $600.

Euclid Records also has some nice records up this week, a few of which closed earlier today and will be added to the Jazz Collector Price Guide, and a few others still ripe for the bidding, including: Kenny Dorham, Afro Cuban, Blue Note 1535. This is an original Lexington Avenue pressing. The vinyl is listed as M- and the cover is VG. The current price is about $130.

Our friends at Euclid Records also have some nice items this week, including:

Jackie McLean, Jackie’s Bag, Blue Note 4051. This is an original pressing in VG++ condition for both the record and the cover. The price is now in the $175 range with one day left, so we’ll expect it to sell for a bit more than that. Also from Euclid: J.R. Monterose, Blue Note 1536. This is an original Lexington Avenue pressing. The record is listed as VG++ and the cover is VG+. The current price is about $350.

Also active on eBay this week is Atomic Records, which has this one, among others: Bill Evans, Waltz for Debby, Riverside 9399. This is an original black label stereo pressing. The record is in VG+ or VG++ condition, but the seller says there is some surface noise. The cover is VG. The price is about $150. With all of these sellers, it makes sense to click on the links here and then look at the seller’s other items when you get there, because there are some other very nice record available this week from all of them.

Art Blakey, A Night at Birdland Volume 3, Blue Note 5039. This is an original 10-inch LP in M- condition. The current price is $235.50. Another Blue Note is Horace Parlan, Up and Down, Blue Note 4082. This is a New York USA pressing

and is listed in VG+ condition, both the record and cover. The current price is about $35. 

Monica Zetterlund, Waltz for Debby, Phillips 08222. This is an original Swedish pressing of this great LP featuring Bill Evans on piano. The vinyl looks to be in VG+ condition and the cover M-. The current price is  $271. 

The seller Atomic Records has a few nice items, including Herbie Hancock, Inventions & Dimensions, Blue Note 84147. This is an original stereo pressing with the New York USA label. The record is listed as M- and the cover looks to be a strong VG+. The current price is $150. 

Finally, this seller based in Germany, Classics-and-jazz, has several nice items closing within the next day, including Kenny Dorham, Whistle Stop, Blue Note 4063. This is an original West 63rd Street pressing. The record is listed as M- and the cover as VG++. The current price is $152. From the same seller is one of our favorite LPs, Sheila Jordan, Portrait of Sheila, Blue Note 9003. This is an original pressing. The record is listed as M- and the cover is VG+. The price is only $21.50 as of now.

Sonny Side Up, Dizzy Gillespie with Sonny Rollins and Sonny Stitt, Verve 8262. This is in nice condition and is currently at only $24.50. A nice Verve collectible, which will probably go for a reasonable price. It’s strange: I’ve had this record for maybe 30 years, and I just realized that it’s Sonny, with an “O” and not Sunny with a “U.” Definitely works better with the “O.”

Bennie Green, Soul Stirrin’, Blue Note 1599. This is a nice record. The saxophone player is listed as “Jug,” which we all know is Gene Ammons, who wasn’t on contract with Blue Note and had to use a pseudonym. This has 11 hours to go and is still at just 99 cents. Wonder why?

Steve Lacy, Soprano Sax, Prestige 7125. This is an original New York pressing, not in mint condition. Current price is around $125. 

John Coltrane and Tadd Dameron, Mating Call, Prestige 7070. This is also a New York pressing. The current price is $43. It will go for more than that.

Horace Silver with Art Blakey and Sabu, Blue Note 1520. This is from Atomic Records and, not only is it an original pressing, it is listed as coming from the collection of Donald Byrd, who is not on this album. The album is mostly a trio recording from 1952 and 1953, but there are also two tracks that feature just Blakey and Sabu, also from 1953. 

Here’s one I would think might generate some interest: The Three Sounds, Blue Note 1600.  This is an original pressing in VG/VG+ condition that is signed by Gene Harris, Andrew Simkins and Bill Dowdy and dated from 1959. It has a start price of $45 and currently had no bidders. 

And, finally, there’s this: A white-label, original mono promo copy of Miles Davis, Kind of Blue, Columbia 1355. Kind of Blue hasn’t always been a collectible, since there are a lot of copies in print, but these white-label monos are pretty rare and usually go for a decent price. We’ll see what happens with this one and follow up on it later in the week.
