Art Pepper For the $1,000 Bin: Blues Walk, Almost

Here’s one for the $1,000 bin and another for the almost-$1,000 bin:

The Return of Art Pepper, Jazz West 10. This was an original pressing. The vinyl was listed in M- condition and appeared to be unplayed. The cover looked to be about VG+. The price was $1,155.55. We’ve seen several Art Pepper records cross the $1,000 barrier in the past: The Art Pepper Quartet on Tampa as well as Modern Art on Intro, which recently topped $1,500. This is the highest price we’ve seen yet for this LP, according to what we have followed in the Jazz Collector Price Guide.

Joining the almost-$1,000 bin, which is not really a bin, is this one:

More Today on Ebay: Jutta, Jazz West, Trane

Here are a few more nice items to watch today on eBay:

Jutta Hipp at the Hickory House, Blue Note 1515. This is an original Lexington Avenue pressing. The record is in M- condition and the cover is VG+. The current price is $630. I’m keeping an eye on this because I have a copy in my collection in similar condition and I’m thinking about selling it. Perhaps I’ll offer it first on Jazz Collector before going to eBay.

Lawrence Marable, Tenorman, Jazz West 8. The record is listed as VG+ and the cover is VG. The current price is $360.

To this listing we say “ugh.” It’s another copy of John Coltrane, Giant Steps, Atlantic 1311. It’s quite reputable seller, but somehow this myth of the bulls-eye label is being perpetuated. The seller lists this as

Catching Up (In Key West): Lee Morgan, Kenny Drew

I’m posting this on a porch overlooking the beautiful, turquoise Atlantic Ocean in Key West, Fla., where I am vacationing for a couple of days. Actually, it’s a much-needed vacation for Mrs Jazz Collector and I get to go along for the ride. Anyway,  despite my adventure in paradise, I’m still keep tracking of eBay for my dear devoted followers on Jazz Collector. Here are updates on some of the items we’ve been watching, from Kenny Drew and Lee Morgan.

Kenny Drew, Undercurrent, Blue Note 4059. This was an original West 63rd Street pressing with one side DG, which I think is how this record was first produced. The record was in M- condition and the cover was VG+. The price was $631. Also from Kenny Drew was:

Today on Ebay: DSM, Duke Jordan, Kenny Drew

Here are some of the interesting items we’re watching on eBay today:

We showed he Kenny Drew cover on Norgran earlier today with the beautiful illustration by David Stone Martin. Here’s another: Bill Harris Collates, Clef 125. This is another 10-inch LP. The record is VG+ and the cover is listed as M-. The current price is $37.

A seller in Canada is offering a nice copy of Duke Jordan, Flight to Jordan, Blue Note 4046. He lists the vinyl based on each side: One side if VG+ and the other is VG++. Do any of you find this helpful as a buyer? For me, I would automatically think of the record as VG+, regardless if one side is better than the other. The cover for this is listed as M-. The price is currently around $350.
